As of right now I haven’t traded anything but let’s say I had attempted it. Do you think the shop would have taken an even trade. One bongo BFR and one stingray special for a dingwall NG3 priced at $2650? Or could you have seen me having to do that and add cash to it? Either way I would have been screwed over I’m sure and I’m glad I didn’t. I’m asking this because it looks like used gear prices may be coming down according to guitar Center’s website. The stingray specials seem to be selling at $1600 to 1900 used and a year ago they were still over $2000 used

Dingwall bass

I play a Super J, Super P, and an Afterburner I through a Reeves Custom 225 at church. They all sound magnificent. I used to play an NG-2 (soloing the neck pickup) through the same rig with the same results.
As with any brand Dingwall basses are not for everyone. You won't know until you get your hands & ears on one or two...I didn’t attemp it. I messed up with my punctuation in the first sentence. I was basically going to ask a hypothetical question about what’s the most a shop would allow on a trade. I’m thinking it would be less than what it would have a year ago.
Have 2 stingrays that both don't get played. Had a Chinese Dingwall and sold it to upgrade to a Canadian. Honestly i have some really special basses and none get played the Dingwall can do it all and has very little compromise. I am about to buy another Canadian and I am seriously thinking about selling all the rest and just having two basses.
You’ve got folks that swear that USA Fender is better than Made in Mexico Fenders. Then there are those that say that USA Spectors are way above the Euro Spectors. Is the Canadian made dingwall that much better than the Chinese Dingwall? The Chinese Dingwall is what is actually available to me at this shop.
As a Canadian owner I’ll say this: The import models are truly exceptional instruments. The Canadian models are on another level, but that in no way diminishes the excellence of the imports. It’s impossible to go wrong from a quality standpoint, the only question is whether or not they’re to your taste/liking.
Agree with this 100%. Chinese sound great Canadian even better. Chinese feel great Canadian feels slightly better. Looks? well Canadian has better hardware, paint/wood options almost unlimited.
The differences are small but when adding them all up it its the difference between a great instrument and a special one. I would not buy a Canadian as my first though. They are very expensive and hard to get and the market is keeping them high as well.
As for the jump between fenders well that is far more subtle than Dingwall. Spector's kind of the middle ground in jump between production and custom and Dingwalls definitely have some clear design and finish differences (while still subtle) are clearer than anything from Spector or Fender.

I bought a gently used NG-2 and enjoyed playing it for a couple of years. Solid bass. Good sound, playability, ergonomics, and I liked the Laguna Seca Blue finish. My nit-pick was the string retainer. I prefer none at all or a two-string retainer. I ended up selling it to fund an Afterburner with the same wood combination.

Used market is great for buyers right now. Lots of Covid purchases. Lots of people being squeezed for groceries & rent and their employers aren’t keeping up so they have to cull their herds.
If you have the space and the disposable funds, just buy the “entry level” Dingwall and stick the EBMM in its case in a closet with a note “do not open till 2035”. It’ll be a nice treat for future you.
