I think this may be the best sounding boutique jazz I have yet to hear. Those slanted frets still scare me a bit though.

Dingwall Super J

Sounds great with a nice balanced thickness to it,it even sound a little like my 6 string Dingwall.

I gotta say Ed Friedland can really play, and he makes that bass sound great.
These are killer sounding J basses, but NO reason at all to be scared of the fanned frets. Infact on a SuperJ the scale is only 34"E-32"G, a mere two inches spread over the whole fretboard. Esp where the money zone is, the frets are pretty much parallel- I guarentee you won't even notice the slant.

Ordered mine through Steve "Dude" Barr and got great pricing and service.
Mine is due for completion within the next two weeks and I am super excited. Not only do they sound great, but the feel is amazing. One of those basses that plays itself. Played my first one at the end of April and ordered mine shortly after.

unfortunately Sheldon does NOT make leftys.
If you look at his bridges you'll see they are molded and angled for rightys. Unfortunately, I'm not sure this is one time where you can just "flip things" over to make it go the other way.
Just as a consolidation. I'm a lefty too, but I play righty because when I started playing bass back in 85, choices for lefty was extremely limited, and if i wanted a decent bass I had to learn to play righty.

These Dingwall Super J's are the one jazz bass I really really wanted to check out and never got a chance too. I was able to locate one but it was still about 3 hours away. I've heard the soundclips and I've also heard the preamp is great, you're able to get great growl, slap, and a good p-bass sound.

I played a few Super J's at the winter NAMM show 06 and as I expected,a very well thought out and constructed instrument with enough versatility to keep a big smile on your face.I was not at all surprised in it's sound or playability in any way.
