I have a k&k rockabilly pickup/preamp on my eberle bass and am looking into getting a direct box for it. I would love but can't justify a tube direct box at the price tag they have. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you like your preamp and don't need the additional EQ offered by the pre-DIs suggested above, you could use a Radial or Countryman DI, either of which would meet any "industry standard" and keep your sound engineer happy (if that's of any concern to you!).

the Radial JDI passive di would work great with your pu system. the Jenson output transformer makes it pricey, but you will get what you pay for there. well worth it, a very great di imo. the Countryman would prolly work best if you weren't using the KK pre, it's active, and has a good front end matching (10meg i believe) for KK db pickups....the Countryman, or any active di for that matter can sound kinda harsh under some conditions though (such as using it in conjunction with another pre and a less than stellar engineer), ime. i own and use both.

If you already have a preamp, then the direct box doesn't need to be active. If you want to eliminate the preamp and go straight into the DI, then I'd splurge on a Countryman 85 and put your name on it in big letters.
