Hello Talkbass. I currently own an ODB-3 and an El Grande Bass Fuzz, but I am not quite happy with the tone I'm getting. Anyhow, I'd like to trade them at a music store and get better dirt pedals. I really want a Fuzz and Overdrive, I like having both kinds of dirt on tap. For fuzz I'm looking at the Swollen Pickle, and for dirt I'm not quite sure yet. Ideally, I want something in the $100-$150 dollar range. I'm also curious about the Pork Loin, Fat Sandwich and Green Rhino pedals. So any info is much appreciated. Lastly, how isthe Swollen Pickle for low end loss? Also, how does it get along with active basses?

I would not suggest trading them in. get a supporting membership here and sell them here. When you get your new pedals, you will get tired of them eventually and want something else. The cycle continues.

+1 on selling them here. Even after the $20 membership fee you'll make much more than you'd get for trading them in.

As for the pedals, we can all say which pedals we like but honestly this is a topic that's been done to death enough times to cover the entire Romero catalog multiple times. Do a search and you'll find countless threads covering each pedal you've listed. Search Youtube vids for these pedals and you'll find demos, too.

Two really quality and versatile fuzz pedals are the Iron Ether Oxide and smallsound/bigsound Team Awesome! Fuzz Machine. Can't go wrong with either of those. They both sound amazing on bass. And like others said, buy and sell in the classifieds. You'll save/make more money. Those two pedals are in your price range used.

For dirt, it's all about Dr Scientist The Elements. Love that thing.

BTW, I play an active bass and all three of the pedals I mentioned work great with it.

I tried the Fat Sandwich a few weeks ago. It is a really nice distortion pedal, but IMHO cuts way too much low end to be useful with a bass. Traded it in for a Pork Loin, and as much as the PL is more of a overdrive than a distortion, I find it much better at keeping the low-end intact.

Haven't tried the Green Rhino yet but would really like to, so I can't give you a hand with that.

The pedals you mentioned are great choices. The Pork Loin is a great it can do very mild overdrive to hot distortion and do all that well. It's a lot of territory of one pedal. The Green Rhino is not quite as versatile but it is a great sounding pedal nevertheless. It's got that great Tube Screamer tone and the 100Hz dial is great for dialing in some bass back in the Mix.

The Swollen Pickle is a terrific fuzz. It is capable of a scary amount of bass. It is not a plug and play pedal and by that I mean you need to adjust in internal and external knobs to dial in some good tones. The knobs are interactive which makes thing a bit more complex. I have a tendency to believe that the people who put down that pedal harshly haven't figured that part out.

I messed with the internal pots many times couldnt find a tone that fit in the band mix.
