Dirty amps

What amps are reknowned for their nice overdriven tone? I know of Sunns and I've heard about the SVT original, but I've never heard a recording of what sounds like an overdriven SVT, or maybe I just didn't realise it.

Are SVT-II Pros nice for this? Mesas? Is it pretty much any tube amp?

Also I hear that GK 800RB break up quite nicely.

I like my V8 dirty.. I havn't cleaned it in a while. (BAM!)

Dirty + amps = tubes to me.. There's not too many SS/hybrid amps that do it for me in the way of distortion. I do like Mesa's BB759 though.

Surprisingly, GK's have a very musical sounding overdrive circuit in them. I didn't care for it that much, but I never messed with it that much.

I am able to get a very tube-like "grit" using the distortion channel on my GK, along with some EQ tweaking

yeah mine has a decent amount of "tubey" sounding grit when crank up that circuit and pair it with my sansamp rbi.

Ashdown´s has a dark and quite nice overdrive.

SVT, most Mesas (400+ leans toward clean but can get dirty), Marshall VBA probabally gets OD, Traynor YBA, Ampeg V4, Hiwatt, Orange, Aguilar DB 750, Ashdown.

Some are. The 750 will not do distortion (from the few times I have tried one) but it seemed to get a fair bit of overdrive when dialed in.

My TE V8 sounds very awesome when overdriven. I only use it that way.
The hybrid SVT-3 Pro can get some nice overdriven tones too when you turn the gain way up. I always like it but it lacked the real deep balls of an all-tube amp.
