Disappointed with Fodera

Late last year I contacted Fodera about one of their standard basses. I was advised that they occasionally have some in stock but not presently and the built time was 22 months.
Being an old fart who might not be around to take delivery, I decided to spend a bit extra and get a Yin Yang through Sweetwater.
It wasn’t in stock but they did have some on order so had them place my name on one. This would eliminate over a year of waiting.
Today I received an email from Sweetwater stating that Fodera canceled the order because they decided to discontinue the model I want.
This really ticks me off. I’ve not only lost the year that these have been on order but I’ve also lost the past 6 months since I reserved it.
Sweetwater has no control over what happened. I guess since Fodera’s delivery is out so far, they could care less how they treat potential customers.

Your issue is with Sweetwater my friend. They took the reservation, but they didn’t know how to hold the reservation.

Jerry?

@Pep did they offer any similar model that you might be able to switch to? It seems odd that if they (Fodera) cancelled the order from Sweetwater that they didn’t offer or give them the option to change the model to hold their place in the queue. If sweetwater had a customer like you will to drop a lot of coin, I’m surprised they didn’t try to hold your business by offering you what could be done to get you something similar.

I understand your frustration and disappointment.

While I can't speak for fodera but through my job im involved with lots of small and medium sized businesses. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions that will disapoint your customers. Nobody does this lightly but those decisions have to be made to keep the doors open. I'd reach out to them and tell them your story. You never know.

What doesn't make sense is if Sweetwater already had this model on back order you would figure that Fodera still owed Sweetwater the bass to adleast get the back order filled (make sense).
So unless Sweetwater didn't fully check to see what they had on back order or Sweetwater just didn't fully follow thru with Fodera until Fodera told them the model wasn't available anymore.

I have dealt with Fodera directly for a custom bass they built for me. I am sure that if you had contacted them directly instead of going through SW, you would have got the right answer as far as the model is still available to order or not from them not until a supplier gets back to your order and suddenly realize Oops I forgot to order and now WHAT!!! Fodera is not to blame.

They offered one with humbuckers and another with a mahogany body but I don’t care for them.
