Disaster Area D.M.C. micro text display?

I saw on the book of faces, a little teaser from Disaster Area Designs. It appeared that they had a D.M.C. micro connected to a pedal, and the micro was displaying the actual preset names, rather than the usual numbers.

Anyone know if that’s a real thing, or some prototype wizardry? I looked at firmware updates and there’s nothing in the latest version.

It would be a cool improvement, as currently I’m using a printed list of presets to help me find them during gigs.

Any clues or thoughts from the pedal wizard community?

Check out this reply, straight from DAD:

I asked whether I’d be able to get the text display capability via firmware...

“The current hardware can’t do it. What you see on our social channels is the new updated version of the controller. It also has about 20 more new features, which we’ll be showing off soon.

The good news is that except for the display changes, the old units can access the new features thanks to our new beta firmware here: disasterareadesigns.com/dmc-beta

Thanks!”

So there it is. We’ll have to buy new DMC micros for that feature, but other new features will be available via the new firmware.

PS, I LOL’d at their beta firmware usage warning:

“WARNING! Use of this beta firmware is fraught with peril and may result in anguish and uncertainty. Proceed with caution.”:roflmao:

I get it. I’m sick of bending down to look at my list, in sketchy light conditions.

I don’t know their timeline, but I’m going to wait for the updated DMC micro. Like you said, it’s been rock solid.

I’m using it with a C4, so I just open the desktop app, and it shows me all my loaded presets. Then I just print a screenshot of that.

I got a note back from DAD explaining how the text input works. Two options, either use the DMC micro buttons to scroll through the alphabet for each character, or use MIDI sysex messages to upload a file from your Mac or PC. Sounds like some effort involved either way, but it’s worth it.

I put my pre-order in this morning.

I've done "#" setting on a set list. There was a lengthy pause in the need for set lists but looking forward I like your comment. I do trust Disaster Area product fully, I haven't broken mine yet and that's a really good sign.

Absolutely, the folks at DAD are top notch. Customer service is excellent. I was having some troubles, and they replied immediately with an email and detailed instructions. This was like the day before Christmas (2019).

The switch has been bulletproof. I’m pretty hard on gear too, so that’s saying a lot.
