Hello everyone, Looking to purchase something a little different for me and was hoping for your thoughts on these two basses. I'm interested in the Fender Blacktop Precision and the SBMM SB14. I've searched and read but I'd like to read your pros and cons. My primary is a deluxe active special P/J and I also have a standard P.
Full Disclosure: When it comes to aesthetics and ergonomics, I'm a Jazz Guy. However, my one and only brandy-brand-new bass purchase was a Blacktop Jazz. I can attest to it's quality of construction. In fact, some of us in the Blacktop Club have speculated that Fender was cherry-picking the better MIM bodies and necks for the rollout of their then-new series.
SB14 would be my choice...but only one from The Bass Place. They are one offs and made from better wood and overall better quality than normal SB14's. I nearly pulled the trigger on one several times. They only have one left. Sterling by Music Man SB14 in Tobacco Sunburst - 0vonkol top - Proto bass - #SB11985 - 9.1 pounds - The Bass Place
