Discussion Point,Gigging, Some Do/Some Don't

Yeah, I know, there was this drunk dude that looked like a serial killer that was stalking everyone in our band.Creepy. Then the fights in the parking lot, more examples of the stuff I don't like about the club scene. That stuff gives me the "creeps"

My bands trys to focus on festivals, "upscale" bars ,clubs, eateries, art events and wine bars etc to avoid that scene...drunks ,fights etc. We do the bars here and there but are pretty picky on where we play and where we feel our music is a good match. We are a band to be heard and observed more than say a cover band i was in where drinking, dancing etc was the norm.

My current band gigs very little. Maybe 4 times a year but we always have a scheduled gig coming up, so, we are practicing about once a week for that gig. I have a job, kids, other responsibilities and can't do more.
Does 4 gigs a year count as a giging band?

Weird, since I wrote this I've been booted out/quit my band. I do have a side project (recorded music only) but I already miss the two gigs we had coming up. I feel, kinda...empty

I think some of us have passed that stage of life.Me, kids are adults and are in school.

I'm single and my only responsibility is my 9-5 which pays the mortgage, kids school expenses and now that I think about it everything.I am doing shows but all the money has gone back to band expenses (studio recording time, T-Shirts, CD, ect.)

We are gearing up to do more of the festival and concert side of the business in 2010.Hopefully our performance will be at that level by next year.We do fine at the club/bar level.Concert/Festival gigs are a higher level in my opinion.
