After someone played a bass, their dead skin from fretting and plucking fingers will have scraped/rubbed onto/into the strings. That had already creeped me out, even before the current circumstances, so I generally don't like to share.

Yes, you are missing the body bags piling up. People are dying (Italy is the future of the United States right now, and probably other countries), and if you understand how viral infections work, you should be concerned. If you don’t understand how viral infections work, look it up. Lots of epidemiologists are writing explanations that are clear for non-experts right now.

I'll look past the comments that unless I am an epidemiologist, I better keep my yapper shut and shelter in place.

Folks are slaves to the media. What they say, what "experts" the bring in, and what they pass along is what people have to work with. Puppets. Wag The Dog is a real thing. Panic and Hysteria is a great ratings booster. This is the current "crisis".

Fact is, fear is overtaking common sense. This seems to be commonplace nowadays thanks to 24/7 news coverage. Back in the day, you got the local news at 5:00 and the world/national news at 6. That was IT.. And afterwards, people lived their lives. Whaaaa??? Yes.

We are discussing "disinfecting" a bass for the love of Pete. If not, a malady of epic proportions may very well result. Even, gulp, death. Please. Clutch a roll of Charmin and wait for the inevitable.

Over 30k Americans died of the flu last year. How about N1H1? Over 12k. Where was the outrage then??? Did you know that heart disease claims almost 650k Americans every year?? And yet, KFC offers a fried chicken and glazed doughnut sandwich. Hilarious.

I am not downplaying the severity, nor the steps taken to be vigilant and smart, but we are burning down the house to kill a spider.

But wash your bass. Whatever works for you.

Yes, I think people who study epidemics for a living know more about epidemics than you do. Your comparison to the flu demonstrates that. This is not like the regular flu. The death rate is much higher, which means transmission is more dangerous. We agree about the news and about heart disease and KFC. But this is not the same thing. At all.

Here is some reliable information. We know that the statistics are underreported. I hope others in the thread will read it if they want to educate themselves on the virus.

Covid-19 hasn't really been documented to be transmitted from surface to person, it's mainly person to person.

Then why would you wash your hands?
Because you can get it on your hands after touching a contaminated surface, and then get infected yourself as we have a habit of putting our hands EVERYWHERE.

So yes, surface to person is definitely a route. Just like all those other viruses that cause 'common colds' and influenza.

Here's a thought: Play the damn bass and stop worrying so much. The mole hill has surpassed Everest status. The earth has seemingly fallen off its axis. Am I missing the body bags piling up? The blight? Probably a story for another time, but good lord, trust me - play the bass, no need to go all Karen Silkwood over the whole thing.

I was sympathising a bit with your first post: lack of common sense and exaggerated fear - there is a reason to be worried and be careful and take a few measures to control the spread, but some are going a little over the top without thinking or digesting properly the facts. However, this one shows you really don't get it.

It's unlikely we'll have massive numbers of dead people. The vast majority of infected people will do just fine. But it's quite a novel situation, this one. The extra measures are not to protect ourselves, largely, but to protect others and to prevent our hospitals from being over-run. Please educate yourself, the correct information is out there. Usually, if someone decides to ignore facts, that's fine and it only affects them. Here, your ignorance may put other people around you at risk, especially elderly or those with certain health issues. Please don't.

You might be ok, but others depend on you helping to slow down the spread. It is not about you. Learn the facts, and then sure, don't panic, don't go crazy, be sensible and careful. That's all.

For the record, I attacked no one personally. But I appreciate everyone’s concerns for themselves and their fellow humans of course. I just feel it’s gone a bit overboard, that’s all. It’s costing many dearly, myself included. So admittedly I’m probably a little salty.
