I had a $3000+ Fodera NYC PJ (singlecoil J) with a Pope pre and that singlecoil was the noisiest single I've ever come across by at least double. I thought it was just noisy at home, but it was so bad at church that the sound guys had to stop rehearsal to find the source of the problem and sure enough, it was my bass. As opposed to my Sadowsky single coil Js that make virtually no noise, even when soloed; I don't know how they do it.
IMO.
This is because unless you specifically requested true single coils, Roger builds his basses with hum canceling pickups, NOT single coils. In terms of your Fodera, I am very sorry to hear about that experience. Did you ever send the bass back to us to make sure that everything was set-up properly and functioning correctly? We try to be perfect, but we do make mistakes...again, sorry for your experience! Having played close to a hundred NYC's, thankfully this is a very, very rare issue...and one that I have not yet personally experienced.
thepontif said:I'd like to know when that was and what pickups were in it. My preamps have never been "garbage" (classy choice of words, by the way) though there have been little changes along the way and some things worked better than others. Then again, maybe it was before my time too.
I always thought when I specified single coils with Roger they were true single coils. I know he does offer hum canceling versions. I now it seem's don't have true single coils in mine! So they must be the noisiest hum canceling pick ups around.... they do hum just that slight bit when they are soloed.... but it does take a lot to hear it!![]()
lol! that's some world class backpedaling right there!@thepontif that's just my street way of saying i was not feeling the pickups lol. The pubs on the fodera was the seymour duncan custom shop dual coil pickups.
Like I said for others they sound great for me in IMHO not great. I just giving my feedback on this thread just like everyone eles no offence to any fodera owners.

I wouldn't call that a "high end" bass.
Really that doesn't count?...well still the bass sounded like crap. also I was informed that gibson is terrible at making basses. I was informed that gibson basses sounded like crap except for the gibson thunderbird. that was their only decent bass.

Not a problem here.
What is the upper right hand PJ? .... Kenny L?
I love TB. Someone starts doggin' something and saying this or that is garbage in a thread, the builder comes in and asks for some more constructive criticism. Criticism ceases?![]()
