Distorted hum from usb-output

Yesterday I bought a ART TubeMP Project Series (a mic/instrument preamp) to mess around with for recordings and possibly as a DI, but when I use the USB-output, I get a constant distorted hum and, on lower volumes, my bass signal gets distorted aswell. I've tried turning down the gain, but that had no effect. The hum even stayed with both the gain and the ouput controls turned all the way down. Grounding the unit also doesn't solve the problem. Does anyone know what else I could do?

sounds like the same issue i had once: i had a Presonus Tube Pre do that to me. i had to send it back for a replacement. i tried changing the tube and it didnt help.

is it on your computer?

i havn't had the experience to use a preamp but, if you double click your speaker icon in the bottom left corner. the volume panel opens. you should have the option of changing the volume of your microphone. (i dont think this really has to be the microphone cause it happened to me and i didnt use one) and click advanced, a new window will open and then at the bottom of the new window if the box saying "1 mic boost +20dB" click it. the hum might go away?

I tried that, but I don't think that the volume panel has any effect on the signal that comes in throug the USB-port. Maybe I can do something like that with a third-party program though, I'm currently just using the Windows Recorder or whatever it's called I'll let you know.

Okay, I just noticed that the hum goes away for a sec when I press the phase inverter-button. It comes back again right after that though... Sounds like a manufacturing error. I think I should return it tomorrow.

It will have an effect, assuming that you've told volume control to adjust the recording volume for that device.

Regardless, it does sound like you've got a broken one.
