Distortionation Idea (warning: mad scientist at work)

Why aren't their any bass distortion pedals with an:

• effects loop
• 2 channel operation(A, B, A+B)
• stereo out

?

Im sure that I've seen a few distortions with A/B/A+B capability. Somehow the name "Mojo Hand Copperhead" comes to mind.

I have yet to see any with a loop tho. Interesting ideas come to mind:

• Allows you to combine pedals, like a nonswitchless wah, that you might want to activate with the distortion
• Allows you to switch whether the loop is before or after the dist. Wah again comes to mind

I don't really see the point of stereo out tho, unless its like a wet/dry type thing.

I know some with FEEDBACK loops, but not effects loops in the strict sense.

As for the a/b/a+b thing, the only ones I can think of are the Pigtronix Disnortion, and the Devi Ever Manglers. As for the stereo output, not really sure what the purpose of it would be

Well, the pedal I'm invisioning is a 2-channel distortion, where you and have either or both channels be the "dirt" channel, and can run then series or parallel. For example, you run them parallel, with one dirty and the other clean, and put an octave down in the clean. Imagine the HUGE that would come out of that. Your idea or before or after switching is excellent as well

Other versitility is to have both distortion channels double as "clean" or "dirty" boosts, so you can run two channels into the dual out, and have one channel boosted for driving a tube amp and one not, or one really dirty and the other just boosted. The stereo out will allow for doing biamping, a la SnakeMan's rig sorta thing.

The only problem is finding schems.... but I imagine anything can be re-tuned for bass.

If they exist for the HM-2, I'll "borrow" those.

The old Marshall Guv'nor pedals had an FX loop on a TRS jack. I built an OD pedal for a few years that was definitely Guv'nor inspired and put the loop on its own footswitch. The typical use for the original pedal was to stick a fixed wah in the loop for an instant Schenker-style notched lead tone (for guitar.)

This is shameless, but here's a pic of the pedal I used to sell:

I did a few of them without the loop, and I even made a smaller sized pedal minus the tone stack called the Jubilee Jr. Sounded great on bass but kind of tame compared to the bass pedals that are fashionable these days.

The normal model would allow you to engage the loop whether the OD was on or not, and both switches could be actuated with one foot. This gets you A, B, A+B, bypass if you wanna.

I'm not on TB as a Commercial User and I'm not really building much anymore, but you DID ask if anyone ever made a pedal like this.

Less of an effects loop and more a blend loop. My pedal will have 2 channels, and one can be run clean with an octave and toeh other can be be run dirty for Krushing stuff, and they can be blended together or sent out to two spepeate amps. But a loop would be nice too, for octavers and stuff.

Thanks. Loop was in series with the OD side, and after the OD like on the original Guv'nor pedals. Pretty easy to switch the order but OD first works better with practically everything.

This would be useful becasue I have learned that with my LS-2 I can make what seemed like weak dist/fuzz/OD much more effective by blending them with a wah or octave etc...

I havent read the whole thread so sorry if I am redundant.

But you want something like a juggernaut..meaning dist/od with an effects loop..but also a Analog Man king of Tone wich is 2 dist pedals in one with switches for both...with the added function of seperating the outputs.

Actually, thats pretty easy. If you check out freestompboxes.org and a few other diy sites, youll find all that information. Loop, stereo out, multiple od/dist in one housing.

I might have time this weekend to do a quickie in eaglecad. Wonder if adding phase switches to the outputs might be needed...or just cool.

Oh, and sum and differences too. Meaning A+B and A-B. A-B would really nasal out the sound I think...Ill have to work this out.

How do I put a blend thingy into my pedal?

With a blender, of course!

What? No blender? Then you need a mixer.

Send a buffered clean signal to one node, and your dirty signal(s) to the other(s.)

Google "summing amplifier." Or take a basic electronics class at your local community college - I guarantee you'll learn something useful.

I do have one of these cases left:

"Boost" "Blend" "Gain" "Tone" "Volume"

It's a pentode (12AU6) based preamp with footswitchable overdrive and a parallel blend-able FX loop. I made two of them in 2007 and this is a spare case I did. Red powder-coat with laser-engraved labels.
