DIY Room Treatment- AUSTRALIA.

Hello TB’ers. can anyone help me?

I need to get some half decent DIY room treatment going on as I have NONE atm. It is a pretty standard 4x3m kind of room.
Now;
I was born in the UK and we made bass traps and wall panels using CHEAP. good old Rockwool. We used it in a deep-ish triangular corner frame with cloth covering, or rectangular covered wall panels

But here in Australia, Rockwool isn’t ubiquitous, and it IS v.expensive when located. So:

What do you use here for DIY corner traps / panels / Clouds / etc?
I am at a loss, its like everything I knew has gone. I only see fibreGlass and light stuff at that. Surely not?
I know I can buy “ready-made”, but I am on a disability pension and simply can not afford it.

What do you use here? Can you help me?
Thanks everyone,
T Xx

If all you can find is pink fluffy insulation then look up build guides for what are called “superchunks” which are a highly effective means of using the pink fluffy stuff. Be sure and put in lateral support shelves periodically or it will collapse over time and reduce its effectiveness.
Thanks, Yeah - tying not too - Im not really into breathing in small fibres of glass. Ive not had much luck looking into this thus far.
Certainly I am not demeaning your answer, thank you.

Bunnings sells HardieFire brand rockwool insulation, and Earthwool on their website. Both are good alternatives for making absportion panels. There should be a store close to you in Sydney.
Sorry for the late replies to you all.
I really have no idea what to do any more. My head is full of opposing information on pink vs dense, and I am not really able to work it out. Unfortunately my disability affects my focus, which is -m I am sure you can understand. Deeply frustrating for me and those around me. I know I am not going to get a "perfect room on the cheap". I simply wanted to control some of the bass from my 8 inch events.
I REALLY thank you all for your replies. I think I just need someone to tell me what to build. I was going for 2 triangular cross sections floor to ceiling in the corners . even this is proving a bit hard for me to work out.
Eff it! Sorry for this. I am having a moment.

Look - just thanks.
T.

No budget DIY bass trap is going to be perfect, but any of the common designs will make a significant improvement. Unless you're going to the trouble of calculating room modes, using pink noise to measure and find buildup hotspots, and spending thousands of dollars on custom solutions, it will be imperfect.

So just pick a design and go with it. This is probably the easiest (make sure to cover the back side with fabric as well): It may not be the best, but it will make a big improvement.

There is a clear answer on pink vs dense.

You only use dense in non-deep applications. If it's 2-6" deep, then use a dense insulation which will most commonly be OC703 of Knaff. If you want more mids and highs to be reflected back into the room than use one with a foil backing.

You only use pink in deep applications. If you're building a corner superchunk (i.e. the entire corner trap is filled with insulation) then you want to use the pink fluffy stuff, NOT the dense stuff.

Check my Post "DIY Bass Traps". I used Bunnings Sound Shield R2.5 and scrap wood etc.
