Double Bass DIY URB Magnetic Pickups

paralell is better for piezos because the impedance is super high.
Paralell cuts the impedance in half whereas serial connections add up all the impedances.

I think this is correct. Inductors and capacitors are opposites in terms of what happens in series versus parallel arrangements. Inductors add in series, capacitors add in parallel.

I just installed one of these in my Eminence EUB, and in conjunction with the Realist pickup this mag. PU really adds a cool punch and presence to the sound. I'm able to play as loud as I want without feedback and still have a very organic sound. I'm using a K&K dual preamp to blend the signals together.:hyper:

If you decide to order one for an Eminence EUB make sure you request a longer connection cable - it was about 2 inches short to make an easy installation of the input jack/brass clamp to connect to the ball end of the string. On regular DB's it's not an issue because the tail pieces come closer to the bridge (the Eminence does not have tail piece to speak of).

I made this pickup a few years ago out of aluminum sheet metal and some generic pickups. I only built it to see if it would work (i.e. not to use it all the time), and it sounds ok I guess. The main problem is that the pole-pieces don't really line up well with the strings.

Hi there folks
on my newest batch I have found a solution that nearly eliminates the noise issue, Takes quite a bit more work though.
I have to match all 4 coils to within 4%!
Ben since you just bought yours so soon you can swap it out , if all the grounding is sound and you still get a buzz.:hmm:
on the older models a cut in the highest frequencies will do the trick.
I am now making only the lowest noise design on the Krivos.
unfortunately because of the extra labor the price has risen sightly to
149$ shipped on the standard models.
I am also experimenting with a single coil model and an 8 pole super humbucker.
thanks for the input

Hi guys,

Anyone have any luck blending one of these bad boys with a piezo?

Kinda like the NS / EMG design?

My first attempt failed, because my coils were in humbucking configuration, but the magnets all point in the same direction. So every other string is out of phase. I am doing some re-vamping, and will soon be able to try this again.
