DJ5 pickups? What have folks tried?

What's good Talkbass,

I picked up a Lakland DJ5 here on Talkbass, it's been slamming, came with a John East Pre and everything. The one thing about it I don't like is that it's got Bartolini Pres on it, some Musicman-style cats. My first 5 string was a Ibanez SR5 and it had Bartolini's on it, and I definitely grew out of it. Too harsh, noisy, aggressive, for my tastes. I need something with sweeter highs, warmer.

I play pop/rock, gospel, funk...i tend to play with a softer/legato touch, so I got a maple fretboard so I could have a little bit more snap and edge.

Has anyone found a sweet spot for the John East Pre-DJ5? Been checking out the Aguilar and Nordy joints.

DJ's are great basses. the older ones had Aero's in them, which i think was a great pup for those basses. Newer/current ones have Lakland pickups which also sound good, but not quite as money as the Aero's.

In terms of really good single coil jazz pickups (not DJ or East compatible specifically), I like the Duncan Antiquity II's, Lindy Fralins, and Lollar (for the best vintage vibe). Nordstrand single coils and HC models are pretty great sounding overall as well.
