Mine is the slightly older version without the connector on the top of the main board - its wires are soldered directly to the board. And it runs on 18 Volts (two 9 Volt batteries).

I think that I'll try mine at 9 Volts to see if it makes any difference in the noise level.

Just curious: does your amp have a separate tweeter/horn?

18V, at least in theory, should mean more headroom, that should also mean [but does not have to] better signal to noise ratio. my preamp's EQ boosts signal very aggressively - when bass or treble is boosted signal gets significantly hooter. does not bother me, i keep them all at 12 o'clock.

no. 70's v4b and v4 into whatever cabs are available.
on the other hand - the most work i do these days is digital - bass into desktop DAW via ipad and multiple interfaces, monitored with beyer dt 770 pro.

I installed the TL-072 and the AD-822. It resulted in a tremendous reduction in hiss. Well worth the effort!
