How do the II Pro and 80s era compare to black lines or blue lines?

Are there more differences between the two pres other than the graphic EQ? I assume the SVP is the same preamp as the other Pro models like the 3 Pro?

Maybe an intervention for GAS is required? It all started about a year ago. My buddy Dan and I were running around (loose term) in Seattle at gear stores (playground of the devil). I had just purchased a Mike Lull bass and we were in The Bass Shop Seattle. Now Chad the owner is a real good guy and he said "why don't you try it through this SVT?" He had an 80's era SVT and matching cab there and plugged me in. With the amp on 1 on the volume, I immediately went into "OMG" mode! Then I proceeded to zone out and the rest of the world did not exist for about 10 minutes. WOW that is cool! I had to have it! So the purchase was made and I took it home and it was good (clouds parted, sun shined). There were a couple of little things to address on it before it was gig worthy, so while I was waiting for parts, it was like "lets see what I can find in Ampeg preamps to go with these class D power amps I have laying around." After some scanning of inter-web sites (large playground of the devil) I ended up with an SVP-PRO preamp and an SVT IIP preamp. I used them at a few gigs and all was good. (clouds parted, sun shined, free burgers) Well, then I was trying to get rid of some of my excess gear (garage stash) and put an ad in Craigslist to sell these speaker boxes and in the ad I put "will trade for tube bass amps". LOW AND BEHOLD! A guy that was fairly local contacted me and said "I have an SVT classic in real good shape, would you be interested?" Well, of course I was interested! So he came to my place and I checked out this real clean SVT classic. A trade was made and the world was very good (clouds parted, sun shined, free burgers with cheese). Some more mindless scanning of inter-web and a great deal on an SVT II Pro with recent service job popped up. "Send it to me!" Received it, checked it out and did a couple of gigs with it and all was very good (clouds parted, sun shined, free burgers with cheese, free beer). When will this madness end? Well not quite yet. More mindless, dangerous view of inter-web and BAM! This idea popped into my head - Ampeg made an all tube power amp called SVT-300. What if I could find one of those and try all these preamps I have laying with that? OMG! There's one at Guitar Center! "Send it to me!" I will surely go to hell for uttering those words. My credit card is still on fire!!! Got the SVT-300 and have played around with it with the SVP-PRO, the SVT IIP and an Alembic F1X. Now, the world is a MOST beautiful place! (clouds parted, sun shined, free burgess with cheese, free beer and free Viagra for everyone!) So now I introduce my Ampeg family:

Kindred spirit! This is my stash. My favorite is the 197x Ampeg V4B with the matching 2x15 folded horn cab. Not practical for gigs, but glorious sound (clouds parted, fresh mozzarella, IPA). BTW - since this picture was taken I’ve added a 4x10, 6x10, and a “new” Ampeg V4B head.

I feel pretty low at this point. I only have an SVT PRO 3, a B100R, and a B50R. Hardly any amps at all...
Does it count that I had custody of a B25 head and 2x15 cab for a couple of years back in the 70's? Oh, and a V4B?

I used to have an SVP PRO, I used that into a QSC power amp into an Ampeg 610HLF. To date, one of the most killer bass tones I've ever possessed. I still regret selling that preamp. Congrats on the gear!

Used pretty much the same setup for a time before selling my preamp/poweramp setup and getting an SVT-CL. I know I had the 610HLF and one of the SVP models and a QSC power amp, I don't recall which preamp or QSC though. Had a great sound which really made me itch for the full tube setup. Got that CL and never looked back.

I’ve been seriously paring down my gear lately. If I am not using it, might as well get it into the hands of someone who will, before it molders away and looses its resale value.

I’m going to list a fEARful 15/6 and Orange Terror Bass 1000 this weekend once I get some pics.

But I’m keeping my two Ampeg B100R Rocket Bass combo amps. I did the ‘line in’ mod and I use them as a full stack.

I sold it a several years ago when I moved, but I'm really thinking about have one again.

I sold the 610, had to buy another, IMO, the perfect cab.

I’m a ‘Pegaholic as well. Three 80’s SVT-II heads, two early 70’s SVT heads, three 60’s B-15, a 60’s SB-12, three early 70’s V4 heads. Used to have two 8x10 cabs, one of which was an original flatback with original speakers. I’m too old to enjoy all of this stuff, and I don’t own a studio or a backline provider, but I gig regularly, 2-3 times a week, so I have opportunities to use it, although I have to admit that I often wimp out and rely on my mini rig- (TH500 and two S15-D). I used to excoriate ppl for leaving their heavy rigs at home, but my back isnt what it used to be (broke it in the 80’s and have had constant pain for years) and I’m not a pro with roadies. IMO, nothing sounds as good as an SVT, so I still schlep them out occasionally.

Love it, bluesbassfreak! Looks like you have an Ampeg catalog. I had one of those reissues SVT's myself, nice amp.
Back in my salad days of rockin and rollin I had large rigs I'd take on the road for decent sized venues (Everclear, Dishwalla - hey, it was the 90's) and dubbed it 'Deathrig 2000'. Nuthing beats a big tube rig. Heavy, but worth it.
