Maybe you've heard of the huge sound G&L SB-1 or 2 pickups can produce already but did not believe this until I bought one for myself. I was running it through a Carvin BX500 but felt it was too clean sounding so I gave my old Acoustic B200H a try and wow, did I just make that red clipping light turn on?! I had never been able to do this with other basses. Not only that, but I had to turn the volume practically all the way down because of the huge SB-1 output. Felt like this was definitely the sound I was going for.
The problem is that the volume knob is way too sensitive and very difficult to set up; a feather's touch could turn it up from not loud enough to way too loud. Would getting a lower powered amp solve this issue? If so, what alternatives are out there that have a good built-in gain sound?
P.S. I was also suggested by my guitarrist to buy a volume pedal but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of overdriving the signal with my SB-1? Any other way to go about this? I really don't know.
Thanks.

(I use a VT bass on top of the B200h for certain songs). I really like that natural clipping sound I get from the B200H.
