Do I need Behringer V-Amp Pro ... or something else?

I fully admit to being an effects noob. I've been a bass player for a while but have never used effects. I have a new situation however, that may make me begin to look in that direction.

I have a Yorkville XM200 combo that is now my home/practice amp. It's big, beefy, solid and HEAVY!!!!!!! It's definitely an amp that stays in the house. Only one problem -- I HATE the way it sounds. :-(

It is so TOTALLY "solid state" that it makes my ears hurt. It has no warmth at all. I does however, have an effects loop so I'm wondering if maybe a V-Amp Pro would be something I could use to warm up the tone and maybe experiment with compression and modeling and all the rest of that stuff.

I've never been into the whole "effects" thing but maybe this is a solution for a combo whose tone I cannot stand.

I've had the V amp and later the LIne 6 XT Pod Pro. All good BUT if you want warmth and a "tubey" tone, I highly suggest a Tech 21 VT pedal. A steal for the price. Do a search here on TB, you'll see.

Also, you can input before the amp (try to run the amp flat) or use through the effects loop (input only) and use as your pre-amp, effectively knockin' out the Yorkville as anything else but the power supply.

Sounds like you need something to warm up your tone but there are so many choices it's hard to decide and everyone has their favorites. The Tech 21 pedals get much love and they are very good but there are other choices in preamps & most multi effects offer some amp modelling so check out units from Boss, Digitech, Korg, Rocktron, Line 6 and Zoom. You can also try something as simple and inexpensive as an ART Tube MP to add some warmth.

Research these units, try these units and quickly run back to the VT pedal BECAUSE...well, I said so!! (imitation of JimmyM)
