This guy has enough effects for 10 bands, and he seems pretty happy. Got invited to join the Stones and turned it down, too. Doesn't seem to bother him. Maybe your problem was more related to that bottle of olive oil sitting on the counter. Olive oil is good for you, but not if you drink an entire bottle!

Ill just say what I think for that very broad genre, classic rock. OD and maybe a fuzz. But depending on your amp, def an OD. That would be MY only need for a classic rock cover band. But it would be cool to have a Zoom B3 or MS60b for some others you may need every now and then. Thats just the way I see it. But if you have an amp that is like an SVT or something of that ilk, you can get that overdriven sound from your amp too. .
Depends what your "classic rock" is. If it stops at 1968, then no effects needed except maybe an overdrive to emulate the under-powered amps of the day. But hey, even in the '60s there was fuzz bass. If you play Pink Floyd you may want a phaser or flanger. If classic includes the '80s, I recommend a chorus. If you're running through a solid state amp, a compressor is useful to cop tube-amp compression. YMMV, of course.
The OD was not simply because the amps were underpowered in the day. Or else only the live versions would have had the breakup. There is no reason why amps of the time could not have been recorded clean. A B-15 could have been 100% clean in a studio setting. Not to mention how some of the OD came from recording console/preamps.
Do you want to add thickness, give a part a little edge? How about change your tone or stand out for a solo? If the awnser is yes for any of the above then stomp the button and move along. These threads are stupid.

There is an effect that does that, but you need a subwoofer for it to work properly.
Great true! I have some pedals that they are forgotten inside their boxes. For the music that I play, really I don´t need putting some of them in my pedalboard. But they are funny for jamming at home or even with your friends.
