Do I really need a surge protector?

Oddly, our new place is real close to both a hospital and a fire station. When I was going around checking out the power before we started moving in, every outlet in the entire place read a real consistent 119-121 with most of them being right at 120. Makes ya go "hmm".

That is interesting, but what I meant was - during rolling blackouts those are the last areas to be turned off ;)
 
Effects don't have any built in protection. Amps at least have a fuse.
Your posts worry about anomalies different from what is in the title - a surge.

Appreciate basic concepts before accepting anything as knowledge. For example, 1) if a fuse can stop a surge, well, how does it stop something that is done in microseconds. Fuses take milliseconds or seconds to blow. Or 2), fuses also have low voltage ratings. A blown 250 volt fuse would still conduct then entire surge. Fuses do not do hardware protection.

All electronics contain superior protection. Often so good that a surge too tiny to harm electronics will easily destroy grossly undersized protectors. Then myth purveyors will promote the scam saying, "My protector sacrificed itself to save my amp."

Voltage regulation in an amp should be sufficient to make voltage losses in a Tripplite irrelevant. If not, address the problem.

Transients strong enough to cause electronics damage are a rare event. Protection already inside electronics is that robust. Typically superior to anything found in a UPS or power strip. A potentially destructive transient may occur maybe once every seven years. A rare event made further irrelevant by something that costs tens or 100 times less money. And that cannot be adjacent to electronics.

Start by identifying each anomaly separately. And with numbers. All have different solutions. No magic box cures all anomalies.
