DO METHANE EMITTING COWS CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL WARMING?

Ouch. That just hurt. There's similar stuff going on in China. That stuff's going to be packaged in bombs and delivered by terrorists soon. Problems like this are so huge it's hard to get a grasp around solutions.:scowl: :bawl:

I'm calling JACK BAUER! NOW!

I'll never stop eating beef. It's just so good. But I'd like to save the world too… I would like to suggest that we place some sort of pilot light on the rear end of every cow so that the methane can be burned off - something like the torches they have burning off methane atop a garbage dump.

As a side note - I'll bet that if cows routinely shot fire out of their butts, those pesky aliens would think twice before abducting our cows and surgically removing their organs!

Holy crap... I was thinking about that very thought on the way home from work and just logged on to post the exact same thing.

Pilot Lights for Cow Bungs... your next government program, and probably more successful than the ones implemented in the past.

Oceans emit 90 billion tons of carbon dioxide every year with dying plants contributing another 90 billion. So really, I think our first concern should be draining the oceans and preventing a single plant from dying.

Well, we might have to curb our appetite for 99c burgers. This demand has resulted in the burning of rain forests (a huge contributor) to make way for land used for raising cattle (another huge contributor). I mean think about it. We have only one stomach and I can melt paint off the walls, think about the damage you could do with TWO stomachs.

Don't cows have *four* stomachs?

I can see the new ad campaign now: Save the environment, eat a McDonald's burger today!

Or,...

Have you eaten a McDonald's hamburger today? The Earth will say Thank You!

:p

There is actually a school of thought that thinks that atmospheric CO2 is an indicator, not a cause, of climate change. During periods of increased solar activity, the oceans are warmed, releasing more CO2 into the atmosphere, much in the way that warm soda doesn't hold its CO2 as well as cold soda.

Good plan, I envision it playing out like this:

Burning the methane would just produce more CO2, although Diggler claims that this may not be such a bad thing...

Bingo, so we'd have to contain it somehow. Maybe put the methane in Ball jars. Farmers would of course be mandated to attach these jars to their cows (at an inexpensive $10,000 a jar), and of course, there'd be a stiff fine for those who didn't comply. We could even spend tax payers dollars to establish an entire government agency to regulate the methane capture. Then, we send weekly space missions to the moon and release it there. Sure it'd cost an astronomical amount, but don't we owe it to mother nature? I mean we're the SoB's who are producing less than 2% or 3% of the CO2 around here a year!

A darn good point. They should stick to crop circles.
