Do MTD Basses Record Well?

i used to work for a booking agent- real extravagant fella- drove around in an Excalibur and flashed his diamonds and what nots- kinda like a pimp now that i think about it- i guess that made me his whore, but thats another issue!- anyways- he said something once i never forgot- " if everybody bet on the same horse. there would be no race"- so, maybe MTDs arent the basses for this particular person- ( not who i thought it was) , but to just say a statement like that.. i dunno- ALL of Mikes basses are wimpy? oh, well- i tell what i think- i think its a personal issue- maybe they didnt get the endorsement they were looking for- but it really does sound personal- im sure Mikes not worried about it though.. hes super busy making wimpy basses- so busy in fact. im still waiting for my Wimpmaster635

I just recently joined the MTD club... snagged a used one last week. I've been totally digging the woody tones (maple burl over tulipwood, wenge/wenge neck). Here I was, looking forward to gigging with it... now I am so disappointed to read that it won't cut through live. :(


Um, just kidding. ;) The comments that person made are to be taken with a grain of salt. Which begs the question: do sour grapes taste better with salt? :p

MTD didn't come out till 94' dude so yea he is talking about Tobias basses which disqualifys his whole answer to your question since you were talking about MTD Basses.

What started this whole thing was a thread specifically regarding MTD basses. The bassist in question then went on to say ALL Tobias basses were no good for live work or performances. I took that to mean all Tobias made basses since there were references made to Mike's new company. I think that MTD basses should still be discussed due to that.

Just for more carification, I specifically asked this bassist if they meant pre-Gibson, post-Gibson or MTD basses. That's when the person responded with the following:

You can have mine, e ...it's an early one, made around 1995 so it's extree wimpy. If you'll cover postage, it's yours. POS!:(

Sometimes when I'm on my way to a gig I wish it would just fall out of the car.

Besides, it's better to look like a bassist than sound like one.

BTW did I ever tell you about the time I created the Beatles?

Actually it's kind of boring. Mingus and I were hanging out in Frankfurt and for some reason, as he was yammering about his latest project with Nightlife, the idea just came to me. If he could teach a cat to use the can, how hard would it be to get four guys and... the rest is history.

Hey, like I said, it's not exactly on the level of the flux capacitor story but it changed the face of music. I've always had these bouts of brilliance, like the time back around '81 when this kid was cleaning the carpet in my Z-28 and told me his dream was to be a rock star and change the world. I said..

"You too?"

Bono's done alright for himself. Cleaned a mean carpet too.

Well I remember the one time that Funky bought a bass and said that he was going to keep it for a whole month! Seems to fit into that category, huh? :)
