Do new Ric 4003's ship with a case?

Hi folks,

I did a quick search here, as well as the forum on the Rickenbacker site, and didn't find an answer.

I've got an order in for a Ric 4003w which I'm expecting to arrive some time in January 2022. I've ordered it through my local Long and McQuade. I didn't think to ask whether or not it comes with a case.

I'm sure some of you knowledgeable people could let me know.

Also, if someone could tell me what strings it ships with, specifically gauge, that would be great.

Mine did. It's a nice hardshell case, but not as nice as the case that came with my EBMM Stingray 5.

It will come with a moulded plastic case who feet are only there for show. Be very careful as they tend to destruct if put in a less than ideal situation.

I've already ordered it from a local retailer. I'm happy to wait until January so i can throw payments down on it while I wait.

There's a fireglo 4003S and matte black 4003S in Peterborough, which is not a long hike from where you are, if you don't feel like waiting.

Thanks for the heads up. I've got my heart set on the walnut 4003. I was also leaning towards a jetglo, but I want the binding and inlays of the 4003. Im willing to wait to get exactly what I want.

The case is fine for shipping, and storing it at home but if you are gonna lugging it around a lot you should get something better like a really good gig bag or something.

There are so many of the "rics are terrible" stories. I have a 4003 and a 360. Mercifully the only issue I have is the screws on the input jack plate on the 360 rusted. All the other screws are fine. This is apparently a thing. Both sound great though!

Same here. Though, these days I use gig bags just so I dont have to have a couple cases taking up space at a gig. But, my Ric case held up for tons of gigs and still looks really good.

I sure as heck hope so. Any bass over $1000 should have a HSC. If not, the CEO of whatever brand it is should be arrested.

The plastic cases are crap, unfortunately nobody else makes a fitted Ric style case. Good enough for storage anyway. The Tolex hard shell cases are very nice but outrageously overpriced.

Not sure why folks are dissin them. Got mine in 2016. No issues with the case.

Much nicer than the hard case from Calvin or the one that came with the Taylor acoustic.

Nearly every used one I've seen in person or for sale on Ebay has cracked "feet" along the bottom edge of the case. Here's a classic example of one with that exact damage on Ebay:

Like I said, good enough for flat storage or careful home use, but gigging? Not so much.

It's a low-end case for a high-end bass. Minus the fitted padding, its on par with a cheap Gator or Roadrunner case. Back in the day, they all came with nice tolex cases, now that's a "deluxe" case. $499 for a tolex case? Nope. I've seen them for less, but always $300 +

Got mine from Sam Ash and they forgot to include the key!! I drove to the shipping center to pick up the bass because I wasn't home to sign off and was super disappointed. Not rick's fault

I have got the case with mine. It is a 2020 with the new bridge. Stunning.
