Do new Ric 4003's ship with a case?

Nearly every used one I've seen in person or for sale on Ebay has cracked "feet" along the bottom edge of the case. Here's a classic example of one with that exact damage on Ebay:
Rickenbacker Standard Case, 4000 Series Basses - Black - Damaged Exterior | eBay

Like I said, good enough for flat storage or careful home use, but gigging? Not so much.

It's a low-end case for a high-end bass. Minus the fitted padding, its on par with a cheap Gator or Roadrunner case. Back in the day, they all came with nice tolex cases, now that's a "deluxe" case. $499 for a tolex case? Nope. I've seen them for less, but always $300 +

Well, I will disagree. I own one. Have owned a total of 4. Not "seen" used ones to form an opinion.

They are not a low quality cases.

Much better than the "cheep" gator or roadrunner. I have actually own those as well.

This is from actually owning the cases. From real experience. Not looking at adds.

I have had zero issues using these for more than "flat storage". On the road, real world use. Zero issue's and have total confidence with them. Last year I had no problem sending my Ric to Houston from Cleveland for a gig.

Not sure how one forms an opinion on seeing adds.

that seems like a good idea

????. The hard case is much nicer than any gig bag I've seen or owned.

Not sure why folks are dissin them. Got mine in 2016. No issues with the case.

Much nicer than the hard case from Calvin or the one that came with the Taylor acoustic.
Wrong terminology I guess. I was referring to something like a

Incorrect terminology I guess. I was referring to those nice cases like gruv gear or Mono.

Hi folks,

I did a quick search here, as well as the forum on the Rickenbacker site, and didn't find an answer.

I've got an order in for a Ric 4003w which I'm expecting to arrive some time in January 2022. I've ordered it through my local Long and McQuade. I didn't think to ask whether or not it comes with a case.

I'm sure some of you knowledgeable people could let me know.

Also, if someone could tell me what strings it ships with, specifically gauge, that would be great.

Thanks.
As others said, it comes with a case. And Rickenbackers smell great! At least mine do!

Yes, Rickenbacker pulled out of GC about twenty years ago after repeated warnings because GC insisted on selling the cases separately. Rickenbacker is a principled company.

That price is highly inflated, it looks like the case that the V-63's came in, that could be why.

Yeah, they used to run around $300, which is still really high for a Tolex case. At that price, I’m surprised none of the case companies make a fitted Ric style case, you could charge $200 for it and still make out like a bandit. The Chinese make them for Chickenbackers, but I don’t know how well they’d fit a genuine Ric.

Yes, the Walnut 4003 looks excellent.
Yes, the Walnut 4003 tends to be lighter than the maple 4003.
Yes, the 4003 comes with a case.
Yes, the cases do tend to lose feet and crack if they're not looked after.

Bought a second hand 4003 last year, and the original case was missing one of the feet, the case by one of the other feet was cracked, there was another part of the case broken & missing. As a result of this the inside of the case smelled awful, so much so that the bass smelled bad as well. Tried numerous things to get rid of the smell, nothing worked. Ended up buying another, generic hard case. The bass fitted fine, and no longer smells.
