'Do Or Don't Wanting to bring back Old Headstock Design'

Can I, or would it be trouble to bring back an old headstock design from a bass that's not in production anymore. Meaning the builder stopped building basses long long ago. I'm doing the neck myself kinda like the MTD bass necks. Thick on the low side, Thin on the treble side. Kinda like an airplane wing style. 5 string. But the question is based on the Headstock, I'm wanting to use the old Tung Bass headstock, By the designer Nicholas Tung, if anybody remembers his basses. John Myung Bassplayer for Dream Theater played one. Please let me know your thoughts.

As long as you're not making money off of it (i.e. selling it) you'll be fine.

You should copy Tung's design. Highly doubtful he would sue you. He took (stole) over $25K total in deposits for basses that he never built from at least 7 or 8 people. If he sued you, he would have to show up in court and then everyone he took money from can find him and get their money back or get him thrown in jail. If you are going to all the trouble to build your own bass neck why not go all the way and design your own headstock? If it turns out looking awful burn it and design another one.
