Do such a pedal exist?

A pedal when stepped on give the bass a very "lead" tone. You know, like Steve Harris' tone on the intro of "The Trooper" or Henkka Seppälä's tone.

It would be nice doubling the guitar parts like that but I don't see the tone working for the whole song as it would turn out being a "random clicking" on the background.

Anyone? A preamp pedal like SansAmp perhaps?

I just bought a Digitech BP-8,you can make 2 presets in a bank.
One being a lead tone you speak of,other being your main tone.All you need is to step on a switch.

A single loop pedal with some sort of drive/dist pedal and a EQ pedal to boost some frequencies. Or just use the EQ as a boost.

as far as steve harris is concerned, it's down to his technique combined with his Trace pre amp.
a slight adjustmant to your right hand playing angle will get you very close to this sound!

As you know,BP8 is a multieffects pedal,but its more than that.It has a good preamp and a good 4 band e.q.

What I meant is,you can make a preset for you as your main tone,the one you use in all songs.Than the preset next to it which you access by pressing a simple button can be your lead tone.

Also,the lead tone can sound however you want it to.

Boost mids for lead tones because they cause you to punch through the mix. EQ, preamp or od will do that depending on your settings.

The akai unibass is designed so that when the guitarist takes off on some random solo mission, you can fill the space with a guitar sound. I guess you could go off on a solo too with it

ALiP BoB... that tone in the beginning of "The Trooper" is all in Harris' technique. Same with the rest of the song. He doesn't use a pedal to "switch" between tones, because he's using his fingers!

His technique is different at the beginning of the song because he's playing further up the neck and isn't playing the same way he is for most of the song.

The heart of his tone is his Fender P-bass strung with flatwound strings. He plays close to the bridge with his fingers, and he's big on triple notes (which is why he gets a lot of clicking on notes further down the neck, even though he's playing close to the bridge).

If you do want to a pedal for solo purposes to boost in a way that gets something a bit similar to Harris' tone, you definitely want to be able to boost the mids with that pedal.
