Just curious if women get GAS too. The mrs. doesn't understand the GAS obsession but then again I don't understand why she needs 9 designer handbags (coach, LV, etc.) either..... I'm GASing for a Musicman now and she's HASing for a gucci.....sheesh!

Anyways back to my original question, do women bass players have GAS???

They invented it.
We say, "I'll sound better if I have the new Leddy Gee signature."
They say, "I'll look slammin' in that dress and that bag and shoes set it off."
Difference is what they do affects everyone. You like it, your bros like it and the other women hate it:).
You get that bass and nobody but the folks at the GTG care.
Now, if you play the stank out of it she and all the other honeys will shake their booties. They won't know it was the bass. Anyway you want them taking you home not your bass anyway!

usually a reason behind it not just gee i have 300 bucks in my pockwet guess ill go get a squier cv or try to justify getting a blue rick JUST CUZ its on sale
seems guys are just habitually buying sht & always know where the best deals on certain things are

bet if i asked whats the best tires for snow where do i get em & how much like 10 guys will have a kickass answer

so lets say i want to get my bf a pedal i find out what he likes what he ddoesnt have what he might want then i hunt. different right?

AND girls gas for things like houses vacations details things boys dont see but in the long run make a girls life better

I'll bite.
HOUSES make a girls life better? Um, you mean from a shelter standpoint or as real estate to show off to your friends and neighbors?
VACATIONS make a girls life better? Um, a vacation is usually a temporary respite from the humdrum of everyday life, so, how does this make your LIFE better?
DETAILS THINGS boys don't see? You mean like static and lint free mops????

Not getting it - maybe because I'm not a girl. :confused:

Uh, yeah!

I mean, you need a bass for blues and a bass for classic rock and a bass for metal and a bass with 5 strings, and a bass with 4, and what if you feel like flatwounds today but roundwounds tomorrow? Honestly, you don't want to have to change those things, grab a different bass, and that's a beautiful wood, and what an awesome shade of blue, and that bass is SO comfortable, and then that one there, oh if i had that kind of money, and the list goes on and on...

Then there's amps. Which one is best for what venue? Might be a one-size-fits-all, but we all know that really isn't the case, so practice, sm to mid, and then decent sized. Then there's this awesome irig out to use your iPod as an amp - the ultimate practice amp. If you have good headphones...headphones...cables...different lengths for different situations (that sounded bad, didn't it), effects boxes, wah pedals, something to organize them all, di boxes, monitors, ooh, mixing might be fun...oh where does it stop? I need a bigger house...with a music room, oh, and recording? Where can I do that? Maybe 2 music rooms?

And then there's shoes...oh, they go with basses, and venues, and music styles, so they can be considered GAS, too...

Oh, btw, nobody needs 9 designer handbags. That's just silly!

IMO, a vacation makes one's life better, whether they're male or female--as long as it's a good vacation. If you disagree, I have to ask: Do you ever take any?

My wife had a fling with Coach bags for a while, and collected 6 of them over the course of a few years (some were gifts from me). During that time, she came to understand GAS. Generally, though she's not very GASsy.

Once, my wife questioned why I needed ANOTHER bass. I asked her why she needed more than one pair of black heels. She doesn't ask about my purchases any more.

Also, my 12 year old daughter has had drum related GAS for years. She's bought cymbals, cymbal stands, sticks, and a VERY nice throne. And she's been dreaming about double bass pedals and a better high-hat stand for quite a while now. All with her own money - mainly Christmas and birthday. Much rather she spend on music-related items rather than toys. (Though she did just discover shoes - we'll have to see how that goes.)

I'm not sure I understand the question, but if it's 'Do women want stuff, really badly?" Then, yes. Most of us are human, afterall. ;) As for myself, I'd love to have some new gear. A new bass... You know. Those are my aspirations, money wise, right now. Though, when I go to the store I DO find myself wanting things I normally wouldn't want, or haven't even thought about wanting until I am there, but I think that's more an issue with advertising companies. For instance, women are usually, or at least think they are usually, in control of the finances in a relationship. They can often con men into giving them whatever they want.. so, it makes sense that the advertising companies would target women over men. Men make more logical decisions, whilst women make more intuitive or emotional decisions. Men would be less likely to pay $200 on some shoes, if they already have some that are just fine, while a woman may decide that those shoes would "fit perfectly" with an outfit she has planned, even though she may already have some that are just fine.
My point being, women are generally easier to sway than men, so they're targeted and well.. it works. :P I'm not saying that people don't make their own decisions overall, because I believe we have a choice in everything we do, but sometimes I suppose, you fall prey to those flashing lights and cool colors. ;)

Maybe I'm over-thinking this one..

I DO love me some boots..
