Do you have an extra output jack assembly? An extra string nut and the tools to replace it? How about a spare potentiometer? Did you bring your soldering iron and some solder and flux to put a bass back together if something comes loose?
And even if you did bring all that, is the band and your audience really going to just sit there patiently while you do your tech work on the only bass you brought with you?
Oh wait, those things never happen. I mean, you never read a thread here on TB where someone's bass fell apart and they're asking for advice on how to put it back together.

But I'm not in the middle of a tour, just filling in for someone for a weekend. On longer tours I do bring a second bass.
I always bring one (often leave it in the trunk of the car) but have never needed it. It doesn't have to be a good one, but something that will allow the show to go on. I'm much more comfortable knowing I have back-up cables, batteries, bass, etc.
I always bring one. I like to have them both as close to the same as each other. To many crazy things have happened to not.
That's pretty funny. It was a joke, right?
Cause if you busted off a tuner, or snapped the neck, had an electronics failure or any of the other gajillion things that could go wrong at a gig, that other bass (or even the other other bass you brought) sure comes in handy.
Otherwise you're standing there trying to make bass noises with your mouth...

We bring back up everything. Cables cords amps spare snare drum, lighting equip, not to mentiong picks and strings.
I've had my amp go out 2 different time and had to use a nemesis 210 I keep around.

If the stage is small, my backup may be locked in my pickup, but it is still there if I need it. having to walk out to my vehicle is better than not having it if I need it

I always bring a second bass to every show, I break strings regularly. And as someone here, much wiser than me said "One = none, two = one".
I have brought backups to shows and never needed them. Also have gone without backup basses and had no problems. If a problem did arise and I didnt have a backup, Im sure one of my buddies in one of the other bands playing that night would let me barrow a bass. When gear always breaks down we are always loaning them gear.
Bird,if I had all the cool Thunderbirds you have ( especially the non-reverse ) I'd bring them ALL to every show!
With the cheap basses available today, especially used, there’s not much of an excuse.
I got a giggable bass NEW for around $200 that right out of the box was good enough to get me through a gig.

I can see that reasoning if you’re playing multi-band shows with familiar people.
I rarely do, but even then it would be wise to bring a cheap backup for lending out instead of your main bass.

Like I said in the OP, I have no problem with my backup bass (in fact, some days I prefer to my main bass)
I'm kinda getting mixed reviews here. I think I will bring a spare bass, just to be on the safe side. Cheers folks
