Do you ever ask musicians if they post on Talkbass?

I do when I encounter other bassists. I wonder if I may run into someone I have talked to here. I haven't met anyone who says they do yet but most folks are polite and some have sounded interested in this site.
Last night I heard a really good jazz quintet at my local library. The bassist was killing it.
I approached the bassist during a break and asked him if he ever posts here. He told me that there are people who own basses and then there are musicians like him. He doesn't post here because he is a "musician." He must be a real riot at parties.
I didn't say much but just walked away. My only regret is that he caught me off guard and I didn't have a snappy comeback. Of course I thought of all the things I could have said to Mr. arrogant jerk after I walked away. I hate it when that happens.

once at Sam Ash, talking about mixing drivers,
sales guy says not to listen to TB (I hadn't said anything about TB)

yesterday, another bass player that I talked to for abot 45 minutes
said he doesn't know what his ID is, because he doesn't come here that often

I'm kind of wary about local bass players knowing my ID...

Once I was outed on a restaurant/bar review forum & it wreaked havoc on my socializing in bars for a while,
then the tables turned & folks were offering me perks to drink in their bar

I've asked this question a lot of times in stores and musicians I encounter.

So far I have yet to find anybody that even heard of this site.

I've asked a few bassists I've met, with only one or two having even heard of it. I wonder if the dude you talked to was the 'pedal without a box' guy, or some other fella who didn't get the answers they were seeking when they got here

Chrissy Hind is the coolest, note the Mothers of Invention T-shirt. Her playing with Stevie Nicks is quite a contrast. I wonder if they socialize?

He was playing a double bass but it was connected to a small amp. I should have checked to make sure he had an Ampeg.

I have encountered two bassists who post here. Both were through local CL transactions.

As for not having a good comeback, watch this video. It's actually kind of cute in the middle and end. It's from a Disney show my kids love.

Generally no, as the first thing people often complain about as far as forums go is the staff. I did mention I help run a bass site to a really good young drummer I started playing with a few weeks ago- he asked which and after I told him he said he comes here and likes the site, so we do get viewers who aren't just bassists here.

sometimes I'm just shaking my head though, and not coming up empty on why we might get a hard time

pages & pages on what color pickguard for a bass, meanwhile General Instruction & Technique forums remain rather quiet in comparison

I don't talk about TB when I'm not on TB, just like I don't talk about using Rocksmith to learn songs. It's just my impression, but I think the old school players look down their nose at a program you can load on your gaming console to learn music

I met a couple of *real bass players first, here on TB, and then went to see them play.
Briefly introduced myself between sets and then went back and sat down.
They were on break after all.

*plays gigs regularly, not just a basement noodler like me.

i often ask bass players i meet at music stores or while selling to them whether they're talk bass members. usually they're not, but a couple have been. my new plan is to wear my new TB shirt to GCs and sam ash when we go again

btw, a couple years ago i sold a guitar to a guy who not only knew who i was on the acoustic guitar forum (i was a mod at the time) but remembered the brief history of the guitar i was selling. we talked acoustic guitars for w while in the local target parking lot

I have only met one other bassist who said he is on TB. However, I have told several bass players to check out the site. One was Steve Fossen from Heart. I don't know if any of them ever did log on or not.

per the OP: hasn't happened yet. i play with older cats, mostly, none of them have ever heard of talkbass.
