Do you forget stuff at gigs and rehearsals?

I used the leave all sorts of stuff at home before the gig - speaker cables, instrument cables, tuner, etc.

What works for me now: small rectangular padded laptop bag that contains only my amp (shuttle 6.2) speaker cable, power cable. I can see in an instant if things are in place or not. A toolbag carries tuner, instrument cables, picks, bass stand, etc.

The key for me is being able to quickly see everthing in its place. If I use one big bag for everything, I tend to think "it's probably in there."

My brother/drummer has forgotten a couple things, namely a rug and a small table we set the laptop on. We also have a power conditioner we haven't seen in a while...

I forgot a strap once. Took it off before I put the bass back in its case and forgot to stick it in the gig bag. Easy thing to replace so it could have been worse!

A previous singer of mine was really bad about this. He would show up to gigs without his keyboards or microphone.

A guitarist of mine would forget to bring spare strings which was an issue because he would break a string once every other gig. I started bringing strings in my bag for him just in case he ever forgot them.

I can't think of anytime I've forgotten something with exception to picks. I have a cadence for whenever I'm packing up gear, so I'm pretty good about making sure I follow all steps and, thus, grab all my things.

I usually pack down in the reverse of setting up so it's always coming out of the bag in the same way and going back same. I guess I was interrupted on the blue moon I lost my multibox.

We lost a roadie one night. We didn't forget him, he just wandered off saying he was going to experiment with walking home (about 30 miles), he was very drunk.

We didn't take him too seriously but when we came to get in the van there was no sign of him. We drove round for about half an hour looking for him but gave up and went home.

He had fallen asleep in someone's front garden and was found by the police and taken to the cells to sleep it off. They let him out in the morning and it took him until mid afternoon to get home on public transport.

I once drove away leaving my '68 P-bass standing in its case in the middle if a church parking lot. Came back two hours later and it was still there, not another car in the lot and a centimeter of new snow on it. Saint Anthony at work, I suppose....

I like to think I'm prepared, but I have been caught out many times before.

That's why I keep my rig as simple as
possible and why I love my Mono case!

I fit everything in my Mono (& the tick bag), my bass with it's strap attached, my amp, leads, toolkit, ear plugs, DI box etc. It's awesome being able to carry my whole rig, minus the cab, in the one bag.

I've got a system to breaking down and if I follow it to the letter everything will be in its place. Sometimes I get concerned if I am hanging out at the gig afterwords for what ever reason and my guitar may be coming home with me but that is why we do one last pass before leaving.

I can not afford to loose any equipment, after load out I do a re-check before leaving the venue, our singer had a nasty habit of loosing the adapter on the mixer for our stage monitors, until I made her pay for the replacement, now it's always in the bag.

I'm a drummer. Once got to a gig to realize I'd left all of my brass at home. Had to literally play the gig without any form of cymbal, just drums. Utterly humiliating.

Back in the '80s I left my brand new Kubicki ExFactor Bass in its red road case sitting on the house baby grand bench onstage after playing the Cat Club in NYC. Only realized it after driving the hour back home and reaching into the back of my car for it around 4 a.m. Immediate thought was AAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
I called up a girl who lived on Staten Island who had been at the gig and I also did sessions with and asked her to go stake out the club first thing in the morning and hang there until someone opened the door. I told her to definitely NOT call the club because it would probably disappear once someone knew it was there. The girl sat there from 9 a.m. to almost 4 p.m., when someone finally opened up to get ready for that nigjt's show. She got my bass back! Very lucky. Still own it too.
