Do you know your State's motto?

can't believe two people quoted the entire first post. Don't you people know how to work your internet? RTFM, jeez

Its kind of handy, don't have to scroll all the way to the top to review the list when someone calls out a good state.

Speaking of states.... anybody know in which state the toothbrush was invented?

Randy

Answer: Arkansas. Of course, if it had been invented anywhere else, it would have been called a "teethbrush".

I like this better than our real motto which is "Nebraska...the good life." It's like they didn't even try. :hmm:

Actually, the real state motto is:

"Equality before the law"

"The Good Life" is on signs by the borders and has taken over. I think that sucks. Also, "The Cornhusker State" is listed on some web sites.

I like "Equality before Law" the best.

Rhode Island
We're Not REALLY An Island

I HOPE so ...

Actually, the original Colony of Rhode Island is now called
Aquidneck Island, and is shown on historical maps as
Rhode Island, so theoretically, it IS an island. The rest
of the State was known as Providence Plantations leading
to its current name:

The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

The real State Motto is:

The best Politicians that Money can buy.

Hawaii
Haka Tiki Mou Sha'ami Leeki Toru
(Death to Mainland Scum, Leave Your Money)

I think that's funny, but the sad thing is that a lot of people over here really feel this way. I don't know anybody that's moved here (white, black, doesn't matter) that hasn't had at least 1 "run in" with some crazy "local guy". They should have said something about the sovereign nation groups, hehe - they really think Hawaii is going to magically succeed from the union someday soon. You'd probably be shocked by some of the "We are not Americans" bumper stickers and what not.

Alternate for New York: "YO, WHAT ARE YOU STOOPID?"

Alternate for New Jersey: "We live in the shadow of New York, but will never admit it." :hiding: :p (prepares to get flamed by the Jerseyites.)

Mike :D

There is some truth to that, but I will only admit it because I'm a New Yorker at heart. I'm there every week or so, and our beach houses are there as well. Everyone else invests in the NJ shore, but they're silly.

AHA! A Jerseyite responds! :D

I really don't know how all these Jersey jokes started.

Actually, northern New Jersey is very nice country, Passaic County in particular. And when you need a room in Passaic County, why not stop at the lovely Simplicity Inn at Blueberry Point? www.siminn.com

Uncle Bill and Aunt Peg's room is the smallest, but nicest. ;)

I give you W.Milford N.J. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?city=West Milford&state=NJ

It really is a nice place.

Mike ;)

How about these for Nebraska:

"Our capital building looks like a giant penis."

"Who needs Stonehenge, we've got Carhenge"

LOL Yes!

In all honesty, carhenge is one of the creepiest places I've ever been. I was playing in a college band a couple years back and we played Shadron (sp?) State college. We decided it would be a good idea to head out the Carhenge at about 2 am. Creepy, creepy, creepy. Don't ask me why...it just freaked me the hell out. Those cars look...soul-less? I don't know....
