Do you name your basses?

Seems like, especially if you have more than one say, Fender P-bass, you'd consider naming them to keep them straight.

Or is that just weird?

And if you do name them, I'd love to hear what names you've given them.

i do but, I kinda find it funny. in my last band it seemed it was almost expected, when I would bring apart of my Collection. I would get asked immediately, "What's its/her name?" so I started giving them funny names, other than my standard "the green one or the red one". I thought it was fun, but the names stuck, so the black one became betty & the red one wilma. I initially named them Nicole & paris (better if one was off white), lasted only one practice then changed them to Betty & wilma.I try to name them with a part of their personality(tone) & topical I like, Sansa & Arya (My Beaters) , but that's kind of difficult. I agree it's a little weird to name your basses, I was just having fun with the guys in the band, I have a guitarist friend who thinks hard about what to name his guitars, to the point it gets a little silly! I'll say it's more creative & funny to have a guitar called La Fawnda, than just the black Strat. why not?

My main bass is called "Tony". Am a sh*t player but get compliments on my tone - only when I play this one. CS '59 P.

Not my first 3 electric basses. #1 was a Kent Japanese Fender P-bass copy; #2 was ‘67 Gibson EB-0; #3 was a ‘64 Fender P-bass. They were my best friends, but I never named them. My ‘62 Kay C-2 upright is named ‘Kay’...I know, I know...go ahead and say it. In 1975 I traded my ‘64 P-bass snd $100 for my ‘68 Ampeg AMUB-1 fretless. Her name is ‘Peg’...I know, but that’s her name, okay?! My new Bruce Johnson scroll top #016 will have two names: Sweet Little 16, or BJ. I never considered naming my basses until Kay and Peg entered my life. The three of us have traveled together and played gigs with some great musicians in some amazing places. I couldn’t imagine playing those with ‘strangers’. Cheers, Bobo

Well, I had a Gibson SG bass I called Debbie. (Debbie Gibson. 80s kids will get that) I also had a Spector bass I called Chicken. (Chick inSpector. Say it fast) For a short time, I had a Hagstrom bass I called The Hag. Then there was the custom G&L bass with a Honeyburst finish that I sometimes called Honey Boo Boo. I don’t really have names for the 3 basses I currently have now. ‍♂️
