Thanks, Ed....

The Gary Willis site really opened my eyes to setup. I've been playing for 18+ years and haven't gotten serious again until recently and never knew alot of that excellent info.

I'm cool with the std setup stuff with string height and intonation. I also use a tuner because I just don't have the ear those guys in the shop do. Always impresses me when they just take a guitar out of the box and wind em up to the right pitch.

I was thinking about throwing in a set of the LaBella flats from Rondo, but forgot....

I have a few shops in the area with pretty good string selections.

I Rotosound rounds on my Hondo p-copy, but I've been noticing alot of practices lately where I have silver residue on my fingers. Either dirty strings or wearing on the frets. I wanted to stick with flats on this new bass.

That shade of blue caught my eye as well.

Was the cavity shielded at all?

Guess I'll find out in a few days...

I have one of those and I'm thinking of selling it for the same reason. It is a nice bass, but I realized I never used the C string.

I also have a Brice FB-1, the Thunderbird copy. I like it.

Bought and sold within a week. I hated it. I have only tried the one, so I am sure they have a few models that are cool. The J-bass does not have a smaller neck than the P-Bass, so for me they are not an option. That's why mine was bought and sold away within a week. :hmm:

I currently have a Ibanez SR886 but I hate the tone and think the b's way to weak. I was considering getting new pups and pre-amp for it to see if that'll make a difference but now I'm thinking of selling it, buying a Brice 6er and then getting new pups, pre-amp for that. My initial question is how does the Brice feel? Then, which bartolini pickups have you guys used to replace the stock pups in your brices? I'm gonna go with a Aguila OBP-3, anyone have experience with Brice and this?

I think I'm gonna go with the HBX-406 or the Prestige, any of you played both the Ibanez SR886 and the Brice?

I have played all of the above. Of the three, the Ibanez 886 is the tightest string spacing (IIRC about 16.5mm, but not 100% sure about that), the HBX is wider (~18mm, maybe even a slight bit wider, but not 19mm) and the Prestige Z's are 19mm. The Brice Z neck-through and bolt-on's are big basses, have wide necks (3 5/8" at the bridge), and feel like Fender's when you hold them (but with really wide necks). I greatly prefer the Brice to the Ibanez, but I like big basses. If you are looking for smaller and sleeker, Brice is not the way to go :scowl:

Again, I would suggest that you give the stock pre and pups a try before spending money on the change-out, you might be surprised.

I will definitely try the stock before I get some new ones, I'm just guessing that's what I'm gonna end up doing. Is the Brice B-string loose on the HBX and Prestige? How does it compare to the SR886 B? I find I hate the SR886 B more then I hate hitting myself.

Relative to the Ibanez, the B is much tighter, I have played other basses where the B is a much more controlled string than on the Brice, but those basses are also much more money. For its specific category/class range, it's pretty darn good. I use LaBella flats, which are pretty rigid strings, and the B is very clean for most things, especially if you're just looking to drop the sub-sonic bomb every now and then :eek:

You're not going to get away with a lot of 1/32 notes on the Brice B string, though, the response is not there. It's the one thing I dislike about the Brice, and it is now especially noticable since I got the FBB, but that's a huge difference in $$$ .....

I should have my ZNT on the porch tomorrow morning. I'll let everyone know how the 2005 models shake out. They do claim to have many improvements over previous models.

Ordered Sunday night, should be in my hands Thursday morning. 3.5 days total process. Not bad....

Thanks for the info, do you think it could handle some 16th riding like the work of Myung from Dream Theater? Or would it just be to muddy?

Should be okay, depending on the strings and amp .... I don't mean to imply that it's lousy, but it's not as clean sounding as other, more expensive basses. If you spent a lot of time wandering around in the low B ranges, put on some strings with high tension, you'll be happy with the sound :) (but you might hate the strings if you're not used to them)

I ordered mine on Monday, and it still hasn't shipped yet. *cries* I guess Kurt doesn't like me as much :)

BTW, Pointbass, what gauge strings do you use on yours? This will be my first 35" scale bass, so I was wondering if the tension is noticeable higher on the other strings beside the B. Thanks!

.029 .049, .069, .089, .109, .128

They're definitely rigid strings .......

That exact set is always available at Rondo, about $8 cheaper than juststrings.com
