Do you own any basses you don't love?

I bought a cheap fretless because I don't really play fretless a lot. It's a Squier VM Jass fretless. It has the tone of a ham sandwich, as Zappa once said. I haven't sold it because I keep thinking better pickups might help it. But honestly in the back of my mind I think the basswood is just too light and dead.

Kind of? I feel indulgent having more than 1-2 basses and my third one is nice and I enjoy it as a bass, but there's not a huge click factor with it. I am considering selling it, but I want to own it for a year first to slow down the churn.

If your backup bass is just a backup, I would think you could let it be such and keep it. You don't have to love it, as there is then no conflict with your #1 choice.

I've got a Greg Bennett ABG that does nothing for me. It is a good instrument if you have an acoustic act that needs that look but around the campfire it's pretty useless.
New over here it's over $500. I haven't even been able to get $300 for it with a hard case included.

I also have a Squier Jag Short Scale that hardly ever gets played anymore...It really is a nice bass but I've got three nicer bases now... I'd like to sell it but again, I'm not going to give it away so I'll probably hold onto it.

I'm down to a single bass again after selling all of mine to pay off the credit card i used to buy my thumb NT6. I have been gigging for two decades without ever actually needing a backup to get through a show. That said, it does make me a little nervous. I'll probably end up getting a cheap bass for a backup eventually. Maybe a Warwick rockbass corvette or a ibanez or ESP 6.

Oh YES. I have a Höfner shorty and it's literally there so I can mod it, play around, practice fret levelling, etc. I plan on making it amazing at some point but right now it's really not something I love.

I also got the Harley Benton Ubass out of curiousity, every once in a while I'll pick it up and have some fun but I don't particularly love it.

I definitely love the rest of my basses though, no questions asked.

The only bass I didn't like was a Gibson EB0. Couldn't get any tone I liked out of that one.

Over the years there have been two basses that were just OK, but the rest I have rated very highly.

Just check the hardware from time to time and bring a spare set of strings and a spare cable and I think you'll be alright.

Yes and I need to sell them. But the ones I don't love are mostly not things I'd unload on anyone here, so I guess it's ebay.

Yeah I always have a spare set of strings. Only issues I've ever had with basses on gigs is the input jack going out. i keep a couple types of tape in the pouch on my rack bag and was able to tape the cable into a position that worked in order to finish the show. I've also had a cable go bad so I always bring a spare cable also.
