Yes! My all time favorite DP tune!

I saw DP in Kansas City when I was 15 in 1972, the loudest experience of my life to date (I'm 57 now). A very stripped down show by later standards, just Marshall stacks and raw talent. Wow.

I went out and bought In Rock the next day. I still own the vinyl copies of In Rock, Machine Head, Made in Japan, Fireball and Who Do You Think We Are. Once Glover left I lost interest in the band. lol.

Edit: My memory was a bit fuzzy. I thought I was 13 when I saw them but I looked up their tour dates and it was actually March of '72, so I was 15 at the time. It was an earth-shattering experience for me that changed my life. Prior to that concert I participated in all the folk circles hammering out G/C/D and Blowin' in the Wind. After that I found a way to wire my acoustic guitar into an old Sears stereo and pounded out the power. Awesome.

Big Fan, learned and played every tune off MH at one time or another, dont really have a fave, whole album is pretty strong. Check out the isolated bass track for Highway Star sometime, pretty damn impressive, Glover is haulin ass.

Have to say I was underwhelmed by this DVD. I saw them a few months later at Knebworth and they were in top form. However the 'perfect strangers live' DVD is well below par IMO. Gillan really struggles on this DVD. He afterwards maintained he had a bad cold so understandable that he had a bad day at the office here. In his prime though he was the finest heavy rock vocalist of all time IMO. On 'Made in Japan' he is terrific, his finest moment.
Unfortunately his prime is well behind him now.

My tastes are admittedly broad...but the question is the equivalent to asking me if I own Sgt. Peppers, Kinda Blue, Inner Mounting Flame, or Songs In The Key Of Life - all groundbreaking (whether you like them or not). Machine Head has and will impact young players. I liked Deep Purple - but I also liked Leon Redbone :p

I don't own Machine Head. Back in the day, everybody I knew had it, so I heard it plenty.

Yep, In Rock was the most important album from DP IME. I do own Made In Japan on CD. Gillan is my all-time favorite heavy rock singer, and Blackmore is one of my favorite hard rock guitarists. Love Jon Lord's playing as well. That lineup was killer, no doubt. I don't know how I missed seeing them live!

How many have heard Dread Zeppelin's cover of Smoke On The Water? :D

whilst machine head is awesome, in rock came before it and that for me is a better album

The live footage of dp at the time of in rock also shows them totally out their with live improvisation

But I have to also say that the song pictures of home on Machine Head is out there too !!

One of the daze, i am going to pick up In Rock & Fireball)...in the early-mid '70s, DP was one of "my" bands...for some reason, I never got around to picking up any of the Pre-Machine Head albums.
(other than Purple Passages).

Back in the day, I listened to the albums...or maybe get lucky to see "my" band on TV in a controlled environment.
Seeing some of these Concert videos nowadaze...wow, they did get out there.
Live In Japan does not even do them justice.
Blackmore & Lord had no problem getting noizy!

yea I remember when the 'Perfect Strangers' album came out in 1985 and loved it. Went to see them at Knebworth on that tour and was knocked out by their performance.
However that DVD shows Purple performing well below their best. Gillan in particular seems to be struggling quite a bit. 'Child in Time' on this DVD is just a joke IMO.
however when they were at the peak of their powers, there was no one to touch them
