Do you still have your very first bass?

I'm on my 2nd right now. Back when I still lived in Holland I bought an Ibanez starter kit, had a GS-something-or-other in it that I played, well.. not much. The itch needed scratching again by the time I got to Indonesia, so bass #2 is a Cort Action 4.

One of these days I'll convince the missus to let me A some G to get my S going, but having to explain that Cort A4 = $125 v.s. maybe another Cort or Yamaha going for triple to quadruple that price isn't really working out :(

Sadly, no. I bought my first bass while I was in Germany back in the '80s. A few years later, after moving back to Florida, it was stolen in a break-in. It was a Marathon bass. I can't find any information on Marathon at all. I wish I had it back for sentimental reasons. I still hope that I'll walk into a pawn shop someday and find it.

yup. It was given to me by a family friend. I have no idea what year it is but its a Quest Black Magic. Basically a P bass. I put a fender 62 P bass pick up in it. It still gets played but not so much recently due to an occasional hum I can't seem to isolate. If anyone has any info about these PM me because google has never turned up any info on these.

Nope. Wish I did. My uncle gave me his original Danelecrto short scale with the lipstic pickup in 1973, I was 13. played the hell out of it so my dad bought me a Jazz Copy made by "Northern" that was a solid bass did a bunch of gigs with it. In 76' I got a Fender P. In 77 I bought a Gibson RD Artist 77 from Steve's Music Store in Toronto. it had the "newfangled" active electronics by moog. Took it on the road in 78, the year I graduated high school and played it pretty much every night til 83'. That's when I bought my first Ferlinetto, which I still own. I added a Five string F bass in 85 and I haven't bought a bass since. My neck through five string is still my primary instrument. George wasn't as busy back then so he was able to spend a lot of time contouring the neck till it fit my hand perfectly. I think I had it in and out of the shop on gigs half a dozen times before she finally went to paint. George is the Man...

My first electric bass is long gone.

It was a Kawai with a warped neck and permanently high action - calluses came fast! I limped along with it from '68 until I bought a new P-bass in '73, which I still have.

P73's been modified extensively over the years (defretted, recontoured and refinished the body, replaced the bridge, p'ups, and tuning machines). But, she isn't going anywhere; by now, we're old friends. ;)

Technically, my first bass was my older brother's. It was a white Univox that looked like a Fender strat, but in reverse. That's what I learned on when I joined my first real good band back in 1979. What was funny was that the guitar player in the band also had Univox. Same style, but his was natural wood grain. I saved enough money that summer to buy my own Rickenbacker 4001. I still have it and it's my main bass. I don't remember what happened to the Univox. I think my brother gave it to someone.

My first bass, a damn-near unplayable piece o' shiz (made by Heit), was stolen from my car, along with my first good camera. The thief didn't touch the brand new Craig 8-track player. Yes, that was a long time ago.

The first one I played was not my own. It was by brother-in-laws. It was a pretty crappy though I think action wise, it was actually OK. But pretty soon I bought a Fender Geddy Lee Sig model and was totally in love with it. I definitely still have it.

Unfortunately, no. The first bass I ever played played was a loaner from my best friend's big brother. I had it for two years & it was an amazing Modulus headless bass. Looked very much like a Steinberger. I have lots of basses now, but I still miss that one. Since I was new to bass, the first fret tension got my fingers into shape very quickly! That bass had some of the sweetest mids I've ever played. They are pretty rare birds & if I ever run across one, I'll pick it up.

My first one is there, too. Old Pan Semi-acoustic. Paid $80 for it at a pawn shop. Good for experimentation tough. :)
Only had 3 others since.
2nd was a Hondo II Ricky copy. Not bad after setup, but I decided to go to 5 strings and got my first new bass. A Samick 5 that would change colour depending on light and viewing angle. Sold that when I went fretless. Sorta miss it now.

My first bass was a washburn lion that I found for $50 behind the counter at big lots. Needless to say I traded it in quickly for my second bass, an ibanez sr405 which I can't get rid of now that I have my third and fourth basses lol
