do you store your bass in its case?
cases, not so much. the last time i used a hardshell case was maybe 10-12 years ago to transport my ax long distance (one of two at the time).

but these days my 6-7 axes tend to rotate in and out of gigbags, onto stands, into my hands, off to a rehearsal or a gig, yada yada. they're being rotated/appreciated in a loose "circle of trust."

all of mine are 'on the wall', in a bag, on a stand, or in my hands at any given moment...i'd probably consider a HSC to be a nuisance (i have one, it fits an FSO).

I live in LA - no humidity. I leave mine on the stand at all times. Easy access is key. I also want aging to occur, haha.

I sell my hard cases after I get the instrument.

In New Orleans I don't have to worry about too little humidity, and even though it's "real feel" 105 outside today, my house typically stays between 50-60%, sometimes climbing a little higher. I haven't had to touch my set ups much, with the exception of when hurricane Ida knocked the power out for 8 days. I have a generator now ..

I keep my cases in the closet in the event I sell a bass or would have to move, but they pretty much stay in the closet.

All put in our "music room" because I play more at home now than I play out, and I like them all. In the Midwest, we can get all 4 seasons in an afternoon. So I have a dehumidifier for the summers (closest) and a humidifier for the winters (way in the back). My wife has a couple nice 300 series Taylor's so it's not just all for me.

All of ours stay in the cases. We have a rather curious 18 month old (and a fairly well behaved 4 year old) who’s always wanting to turn knobs, push buttons, flip switches, and pull on things. Always check my amp too before I turn it on. Found the knobs maxed on more than one occasion.

All my instruments live in their gig bag cases in a closet in my small music room. I take them out to play, and put them back when I'm done. They stay dust-free in the case.

Humidity isn't much of an issue here, about a mile outside of Pasadena, CA. That is, unless we're talking occasional brief periods of extreme lack of humidity; single digits. It's a reasonable 54% here right now.

luthier who just repaired my bass recommended that i store it in a case with humidity control packets in it to keep the bass in top playability as far as humidity

I have humidity meters in my rooms sitting next to where my basses are on the stands. I keep my house from between 49-59% humidity based on the weather

I like to keep my basses out and on a stand to quickly grab and play as the cases would have to stay in the basement and stairs would be involved to go grab this instrument. I am not a super lazy person but I like the ease of being able to just grab it off the stand in the other room when the urge to noodle hits me.

I only have a mono gig bag so I would need to get a case that would fit this bass.

I think that with the humidity at those levels the bass should be fine on the stand.

Im sure some will say yay and some say nay, but I guess this post was mostly to vent.

i keep mine in their stands next to my desk. I put them in their case or in a gig bag when transporting them bakc and forth from a gig and that's about it.

I usually keep one or two in my practice space on stands. They get rotated frequently, depending on what I feel like playing. Those not on duty are kept in cases.
I live in a 5th wheel RV, so space is limited. The basses in their cases stay in a climate controlled store room.

I have never stored basses in their cases. I have them out, either on stands or wall-hanging. Right now it's all stands since I moved them to another room in the basement.

Our humidity here can drop to 10% in winter, although it's usually above 20%. This has never caused a problem in over 20 years. We added a humidifier to the heat/AC this March, and it's set to maintain around 35%. That should make things more consistent.

The actual humidity isn't as important as the humidity over time. If it's reasonably constant all is OK.

I keep one bass out on a stand, and the rest in cases and gigbags. The cases I bought came with wrapped in clear trash bags during shipping. I saved the bags and use them for dust covers. Slipping the cover off and then slipping it back on when I'm done doesn't slow me down any.

I have gig bags for both Precisions and my upright. They get used transport to and from gigs. In between, they sit happily in stands or leaning in a neck support (upright)
The dehumidifier in my band room(basement) is set on 60% and drains directly into the laundry drain. Runs most of the summer. I bought it for the people, not the instruments

No way will I keep basses in their cases at home. I want them all out in the open and visible. My cases stay in a closet. The basses stay on a guitar boat a few feet away from my office/studio desk. When I get home from a gig, almost always the first thing I do after unloading my truck is to pull them out of their cases and onto a guitar.

(I admit, that Peavey T-40 isn't within arm's reach, I probably couldn't pick it up anyway...)

Most of my stuff is cased when not being used. Right now, I have a four and a five string sitting on stands, my brand new Emerald Blue Tribute LB100 is hanging on the wall of my "office" because, well it's new, right next to a OW Strat that has a story that's special to me, so it's on display. There are usually a few more out but we have some chez-badinage refurb pandemonium going on presently.

I keep most stuff in original or era-appropriate-as-possible cases which are pretty much babied for preservation. OCD, yes... My guitars almost always go to gigs in gig-purposed cases which are (1) Pre-stocked with the types of "extras" I want to be in a gig-case, and (2) OK with getting beat-up without me stressing about it.

I kinda do both. The basses that are getting current use are out and ready to go, otherwise in a gig bag if back and forth from reh etc. I DO find hard cases helpful for storing axes that aren’t currently in use. I would gladly display them all but am slightly concerned about earthquakes (new to me) in SoCal. Does anyone else out here worry about their s**t falling over or off the wall?
