Do you 'talk with you hands?'

I throw in the occasional hand gesture during normal conversation, but I've noticed that some people flail their arms around like crazy when they talk.

Sometimes I notice that their movements pertain to the story that they're telling, but often it is just completely random.

I do gestures, but not excessively. I can sit still while talking. I know some people who MUST flail their hands and gesticulate wildly. I wanna duck tape them to a chair when they do that.

By default I talk with my hands everytime I type.

Somewhat related:

I was in Rome, and saw 2 people on a Vespa scooter. The passenger was riding behind the driver, and conversing with the driver. He was reaching around and had his hands in front of the driver, so the driver could see the gestures!


And yes, I use my hands to talk. My wife hates it!

What I want to know is what genius journalism professor(s) decided to start teaching future TV reporters and anchors that it was ok to use hand gestures to emphasize their phrasing when delivering the news.

Drives me insane.

Its a blind stereotype. I'm a cracker, but I talk with my hands so much, people ask me whether I'm Italian. "No...I'm Scots-Irish. Ask me that question again, and I will talk with my hands by punchin' yer face!"

And yes, I do. I paint pictures with my movements. Its an art.
