haha. you're right man. i can't have anything get in the way on my envelope filters. (ps, i have a emma discombobulator on the way, 3 EF's in one pedalboard, so funky)


I really should get in on these "compressor things". I've read Bongo's thread and page a couple of times, i just don't think i need one. I don't slap much, and every time i hear clips of them, i swear i can't hear a difference. Oh yeah, plus i'm against noise (ie fuzz/unwanted buzz).

If i did get one, I would use it live. Now i need to find one.

Well, I'm waiting for bongo's comprehensive review on the Rane DC24... Tayste gave on great reviews, and I'm sure bongo will run it through his rigorous checklist of all things compressed.

I have high hopes for this model... hoping that it'll be *sigh* the one.

In most cases prefer limiting to compression...

with limiting I am able to play softly and get those nuances out, but when I really dig in, I can get that hard string "growl" without it being offensive.

I tend only to use compression when I want a really thick and deep fingerstyle tone that is completely even sounding.

I find that too much compression robs the bass of clarity.

Oh hey, Spanky, bad news- the one I bought turned out to be a rusted-out hunk of junk so I had to send it back for a (hoped-for) refund. The next few that popped up on the bay ended at times when I couldn't be on my computer :rolleyes:, so who knows how long it will be before I finally snag one.

As for the compression thing... yeah, I've got subtle compression always on.

However, I'm debating whether or not it should stay that way. I've been jamming with my brother without my board for a few weekends now, and I've been getting much better at controlling dynamics with my fingers alone.

Plus, I'm on the hunt for a used EBS Multicomp to try out in my rig!

yeah, plus most (if not all) of the people who said Yes are effects users live. MANY and i mean MANY bass players just use a bass, amp, and cord for all their gigs. Those people don't respond in the effects forum.

i'm guessing that overall, More people Don't use compression live.
