Do You Use Ear Plugs And If So Which Ones?

No matter what it seems every group I play in has a guitarist that insists on playing too loud. One guy has blown 2 speakers in 3 practices!

I try to space myself away from the amps, I've used cotton balls, time to upgrade. I had a decent talk with a soundman who says even if you don't use a set the whole night either rotating one earplug between both ears or keeping one in the ear that is facing the amps helps.

What do you guys use? Hearos seem to be cheap and sanitary. Is there something else I'm missing?

Many spend hundreds on earplugs, but I’d suggest trying the Hearo high-fidelity just to see if they work for ya.

I've been using them and they do the job for me.

There are reasons why plugging one ear is bad, but I’m not sure of the specifics enough to explain; maybe someone else can.

:)

hearos.......are good, any Industrial Supply store will have ear plugs, Home depot will have the soft style, with the chord, your local Music store should have some different types. It will take some getting useto, but once you get over the awkward feeling it will be 2nd nature...and don't give in to the others calling you a wuss.
Been playing clubs since 84 , been playing with "if you can't feel the marshall it an't Muisc " type guitar players since 83. I've allways worn ear plugs, most of the clubs I go to I'm allways wearing them. The guitar player from my 1st band is deal as a door nail now...Who's the wuss now.
that sound guys a ...I'm not going to say it,.......never only wear one.

I use some Hearos I bought at GC for about $12 - something like -15-20dB. Great for taking the roar out of live music and allowing you to actually discern things. Plus I can still hear bandmates talking at a normal level. Just make sure to allow them to dry completely after washing or they work too well.

Hearos is what I wear as well, the foam ones work too well. just gotta remember to wash them off and dry them between gigs, or you open the holder to put them on at a gig and they are gross looking. I don't care if it's my own ear way, its still gross!

But probably any plus with a hole down the middle so you can hear talking while blocking loud stuff will be fine. Buy a couple different cheap ones and see whats comfortable over the course of a night.
