DOD Milk Box doesn't suck (sound)

I bought one a few months ago. Paid $60 CAD ($8 US, approx) from a guy on Kijiji. Thankfully he lived down the street from me so I was able to pick it up immediately, I don't think these pop up often around here - I'd been waiting forever. I love mine. I'd support an updated reissue too.

My problem is I want a grab and go board and I'm always torn between the MB and a CS-2 so I'm always switching them out and can't settle on one or the other.

I'd been using a dyna comp script logo clone for guitar that I love, but that's been tossed aside and now I'm using the Milk Box as well. I only play really weird, Derek Bailey type stuff on guitar so I like the extra noise that it adds a lot.

Zombie resurrection again! Only because I recently started playing again semi-seriously and have to sing the praises of this compressor again. This thing is pure gold.

Bumpin this necro thread coz I just got my meatbox reissue and I want the same treatment given to this sweet compressor.

Standard 9v, true bypass, compact enclosure. Yum.

I'd be the first one to buy this EXCEPT.... please don't mess with the bypass! The bypass is probably the most magical part of this pedal (although is does color the tone)!

Slow to the party, sorry. Some say that it adds a subtle "grind" to the tone in bypass, although I can't say that I can hear that at all.

What I have noticed in bypass (although it's hard to pin it down exactly), is that I feel like it's still compressing, but in a subtle, different manner. When it's on, it tends to bring a pretty fat, tight tone. Bypassed, it seems to keep the tightness, mostly in the top end.

The best example I can think of is back when I had the first version of the VT pedal, and I, like some others, had issues with how clanky that pedal would get. I hated the top end on it. Mysteriously, the Milk Box would completely cure the issue in bypass. Harsh clank was completely gone, and replaced by smooth clean treble. Take the Milk Box out of the circuit: clank.

I just bought one. I can't seem to get it sounding good without either too much swell and a 'wobbling' in the high end or too much noise rising between notes. It seems to affect the stereo image of the bottom end too making it less wide when listening through headphones.

There's a definite grind in bypass but I already have a lot of grind from my sansamp bddi2. If anything I was hoping it would tame it while fattening up my low end which it does nicely but at the cost noise. Unusable for recording imo with my gear. Might be ok live will test it out
