I just use a self-muting cord like this one:I put a Boss tuner between bass and head so I can mute between sets and unplug active bass... is that unnecessary? It seems my old Ibanez eats batteries every month.
Abosolutely. Starting in the late 70's I got all tangled up in a quagmire of fx pedals, trying to achieve this ultimate tone or sound that I had in my head. Then about 3 1/2 years ago I got a low powered tube head, plugged my bass straight in, and what do you know? There it was in all of its glory. I had been trying to 'simulate' a sound with toys when I could have spent a hell of a lot less money if had figured that out 20 years ago. Now I use one footswitch to switch between clean and overdrive channels on the amp, and I take both flat and round wound strung basses to the gig. I can get so many varied colors from that set up, and my sound has never been better.bass, cord, head to bottom...that's it.
Really? 4 1/2 years on TB and you've never seen the threads in the effects forum that pop up regularly and get shut down because of the heated debate between those that use pedals and those that don't?????bass, cord, head to bottom...that's it.
