I keep choosing bass as the instrument i connect with most, maybe because it is familiar at this stage, but the soloists I enjoy listening to play guitar and trumpet. It gets kind of annoying as I find it difficult to not want to jump to a new instrument. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? Any suggestions?

Does anyone else get there inspiration from non-bass players?

I don't see it as a problem. Whoever inspires me to play has done me a favour.

I started with guitar, got to bass, started playing drums and fool around with synths (horribly at all of the above). Music, in general, inspires me and if I'm getting a little musically ADD during a jam session, sometimes it just means I need to put them all together and record something

When my kids were born 13 years ago I had a sh!tton of time to woodshed (and wait for crying time at 03:00).
That was the first I ever SAW Jeff Beck caress notes out of a guitar, without a plectrum.
The stuff that that man did with his hands to trick harmonics changed my right hand playing style.

Electric Bass lines that mimic symphonic movement often greatly improve rock music IMO.

While I identify as a bass player, I love listening to uileann pipes, low whistle, saxophone, mandolin and fiddle.
David Gilmour is very melodic and has great phrasing. Although my bass parts don't sound like his guitar parts, I do count him as an influence on my playing. I've seen Buddy Guy play a bunch of times - his dynamics are inspiring, and that has influenced my playing as well.

Tom Scholz from Boston. His basslines he created on his first album were very melodic and play for the song. Great inspiration for bass track creations, and ideas.
Absolutely love other instrumentalist, not just bass. Pat Metheny is a huge influence to me among othe non bass players. I love bass players but even the greats say don't just listen to bass.

When I listen to music, I listen to the drums.
A lot of what I play gets its inspiration from french horn, woodwind, and sax players. Also cellists who I consider to be some of the best bassists on the planet.
+ 1 on drawing inspiration from horn players. If I listen to Paul Desmond (with or without the Dave Brubeck Quartet) in particular it puts me in a creative zone even when away from a bass that is still there when I do pick up the instrument.

I started on guitar, play a ton more bass, and even play some drums.
Along the way, there were brief forays into banjo, mandolin, bouzouki, piano, etc.
Definitely the keys. My late Mother was a highly gifted professor, composer with the piano, especially in the classical genre, so I grew up with that, also going to the Detroit Symphony as a kid. Later became a huge Genesis fan, and have always been a big fan of Mr. Tony Banks. So many great songs and LP's......it was fun exposing my Mother to guys like him, Wakeman, Corea and Emerson, etc. She really loved Banks sense of harmony and melody, especially tunes like Ripples or Mad, Man Moon off of Trick of the Tail. So yeah, Tony Banks has always been my non-bass major influence and inspiration. I have two Korg Workstation synths and a Korg 88 key digital piano in addition to the bass stuff.
All the time. To be frank, I’m rarely inspired by most bass players (in isolation). It’s part of a larger package. While I am somewhat impressed with the advanced chops that some players have, that’s not what inspires me.
