Does anyone else name their basses if so what are their names

Pretty much any Stradivarius violin has a name. Are you calling billionaires that don't play violin that buy them for millions of dollars, then display them in a case to impress their visitors, insane?

Not necessarily insane, but if they're keeping the Strad on the wall just to impress visitors, and not loaning out to classical artists to be played, then those billionaires are being Really Big Jerks. IMHO and all that. And speaking as a collector and player myself...

My Pedulla Rapture is named Thunderstick, because well, it brings the thunder! Moon bass surprisingly, Mooney. Roscoe is named "Dad" as I bought it as somewhat of a tribute to my Dad after his passing. Still working on appropriate names fro the others.

in the fine string instrument word, (otherwise known as violins) it is pretty common for an instrument to bear the name of a notable former owner. I sort of gravitate towards that.

I have an instrument that a friend of mine traveled to boston to buy on short notice, and i ended up getting it from him. we can't help but refer to it as the boston bass. things like that work for me.

now that I think of it, both of my uprights i naturally do refer to them by the name of their former owner. it is somewhat coincidental that both instruments came from a regionally well known and/or respected player.

I never really named basses, though the G&L I played almost exclusively for 20 was occasionally called "Ol' Blue." Because, well, it's blue. More often than not even that one is called just "the G&L." None of the others have or have had names.
