Does Anyone Like Django Reinhardt?

Man, I've dug that cat (Django)for over thirty years. Some of the stuff he did with Stephane Grappelli was just as killer. Check it out if you haven't heard them together. It's worth noting that Django lost about a finger & a half on his fretting hand in a fire at about age five I believe.

PS. Joscho Stephan is purty good too.

+1. Django has been one of my favorite guitarists for years. I'm not big on jazz, but he's fantastic.

Dude's a regular speed demon... It's pretty showy playing, but that's part of the style, I guess. He really gets the details down, too, the snappy attack, the fast vibrato, the fleeting bends and those extended chromatic runs.

i agree, django is an incredible player, and the stuff with grapelli showcases the dynamic interplay of a couple of masters. the sound quality of some of the recordings isn't the greatest, but this in it's own way is really cool as it lends authenticity to the music and credibility to the strength of the performers. think, these days how many bands are studio creations or their sounds are production tricks.

i had heard that his left hand was damaged in a caravan ( trailer ) fire when he was young and that he had his 3rd and 4th fingers fused together. he thereupon learned to play his guitar with 2 fingers, solo and chording, and that this music makes up the bulk of his recorded work. amazing, truly amazing.
