Does anyone play in band that's NOT filled with douchenozzles?

I was in a band without a douche. Then again, we had all already been friends for years, and it wasn't like we were in it to make money or anything. Just a way for four friends to hang out and do something we loved. For three of us, it was playing music, for the other... well, he played drums. :D

We did mostly covers, and a good portion of practicing was spent doing rhythm section jams, but we had a blast and played a few gigs.

That doesn't make us bad people, but we are musicians, we are weird by nature, and if we weren't, we wouldn't feel this need to stand on a stage and play music and expect people to shower us with love :D

I am a raging d-bag, and I am sure my bandmates are as well, but together we work well.

Well actually due to my drummer's other band getting picked up by Sony red, and our other guitarist just didn't have enough family time between two bands, it is just the singer/guitarist and I.

But when all 4 of us were there it was effing great, the guitarists (like all guitarists) would start the night WAY to loud, so I say "hey, could you turn it down" and you know what thye do, turn it down to the point where I have to tell them to bring it back up a little. It is AWESOME!

Douchebaggery (of others, I can stand my own) is the reason I haven't comitted to a project since I started playing again. I'm focusing more of my energy on becoming a well rounded multi-instrumentalist and once I reach a certain level of proficiency, I'll just record and gig on my own. Definitely a long term project, but worth it to me.

Seriously though, musicians, like most creative types, are a quirky bunch, for sure. For me it has become easier to deal with as I get older.

My current bands have very few douchenozzles, because we are all old enough to know better, and the youngest of us is married with kids and doesn't have delusions of grandeur.

I refuse to play in bands with douchenozzles ever again. If it ain't fun, it ain't worth it. That is why I stick to fun cover bands now.

I have no desire to be in an all-or-mostly original band nowadays, since I find the douchenozzle factor increases as the amount of original music increases, or more specifically, as the number of individual singer/songwriter types increases.

No major problems in either of the bands I’m in. Folks show up on time, play well and are polite. No drug or alcohol problems. That said folks in both bands will occasionally say something that makes me do a double take. A couple of weeks ago the guitarist in one band said that the Average White Band was too obscure a band for us to cover. Huh? This in a band that cover ‘My Boy Lollipop’ and ‘It Hurts to Be in Love’?

All the people I play with are good guys and really easy to get along with, personally and musically. The only guy I play with who I could see not getting along with other people in a different band situation is the vocalist/guitarist I do a recording project with. He's pretty anti-social and doesn't do well with confrontation. So if he was working with people who had some conflicts he would just quit, even if it was all HIS music (which he has done before). In that case though he writes all the music and lyrics, I just lay down bass lines and handle the recording/producing. It's very casual, we don't gig or even rehearse, it's just recording sessions and we're also good friends. Every guitarist I play with other than him is either also a bassist or started on bass and they're all really supportive, encouraging and collaborative. Particularly about tone and style. They're all eager to create a sound with an emphasis on how everything fits together, instead of forcing a tone into the mix or demanding I play or sound a certain way.

Don't get me wrong...most of the bands I've been in have at least one stinker. I've had some epic jerks for band mates in the past. I'm lucky at the moment though.

I'm currently in a duo with only a drummer (we cover the other bases as well (no pun intended)) and we're both extremely humble with each other.
If we were to run into another bass n drum duo doing stuff like us, the 'doucheness' would probably come out and we'd try to prove we were better in a subtle sarcastic manner hahaha!

Then again, I feel like that latter part applies to all bands ever.

I'm a douchenozzle and my bandmates can be too, but they're some of my favorite douchenozzles in the world :D

The people in my cover band are pretty much my best friends, and they and a few others are the main people I hang out with outside of band events too. My original band's members (one overlaps with the cover band) are really good guys too. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever actually played with anyone I disliked as a person; I've much more often worked with people that I genuinely liked but unfortunately couldn't hang as musicians :( I think the closest to an actual douchenozzle was a drummer I played with for a couple months that wasn't allowed to leave the state to play shows because he was behind on his child support, but even he was a cool enough guy (around the band anyway); he just couldn't get his personal shiz together.
