Does anyone use caffeine pills on gigs?

Usually I bring a thermos of coffee with me to gigs...I am really not a night owl (often in bed by eight pm even on non-work nights) and wake up early so I often struggle with energy and alertness levels on gigs that start at nine pm. The coffee helps me stay alert, awake and sharp.

Last night however I was pressed for time and didn't get a chance to fill my thermos up before leaving the house and figured since we were playing at a place that served food, id be able to get coffee there. Wrong..they had no coffee and only had cold brew which I can't stand.

The lack of coffee made for some difficulties but I pulled through.

Was thinking caffeine pills would be a good thing to keep in my gig bag and came across these on amazon.

Anyone keep these or something similar on hand at gigs?

Too much caffeine gives me jitters, but I do get the issue and have other means of helping which probably wouldn't work for most people. I have low blood pressure and some other issues and there are medications that do provide me with some energy boost when those issues are dragging me down. I usually will take those an hour or so before a show if I feel like I need a lift.

i've tried various, non-coffee caffeine-based concoctions over the years, infrequently, but i found that my system really responded to the chocolate-covered roasted coffee beans --- a little goes a long way for me! i used them effectively on those long-haul days with multiple gigs --- might be worth trying. they were in my system fast, faster, fastest........hang on... :D

I took them a few times (exams at Uni) and am still alive. Harsh on the stomach though so have them with food. For infrequent use only, like your situation.

I’d drink a Coca Cola, energy drinks, iced coffee, etc before taking one of these again. Just be a few minutes late next time and make that thermos of coffee.
