Does hum hurt?

Hello. I've been playing my Fender Jag through my Mesa M6 Carbine/Ampeg SVT410HLF for the first time over the last few days. My Jag is unshielded and is noisy as he!!, even more so on active mode which is how I like to run it. Every once in a while, when I move, there is a pop. It's not particularly loud but its very sharp-sounding. Is all this noise harmful to my amp/speakers? I don't use the "active" mode on the Mesa's input, either. I do plan on having the bass shielded in the future, but I want to use it in the meantime. Thanks in advance!

The hum won't necessarily hurt anything but it can be annoying. Check the ground under your bridge when you shield the bass, sometimes they get push into the finish and get loose. Move the wire over to a new spot and screw the bridge back down. Some loud pops can be hard on tweeters, can even take them out.
